Creating Rain Activity in a huge community the size of ActiveRain with well over 65,000 real estate sector and related professionals, looks a little daunting at first, I for one was quite intimidated as many probably are. I noticed huge point winners and some top notched professionals around the Nation and thought, wow, where would someone like me fit it.

After all, I started with no points, but then I thought, well, everyone has to start somewhere right? In fact, everyone here started with nothing, no points and were most likely happy to see at least they got a few points for signing up. That was nice when I noticed I got points for setting up my blog and profile page. But how does one go from zero to 1,000 comments in under a month; 20-days to be exact. Well, it was not easy, you have to create an online presence and buzz.

Lance' Blog Takes Off

My Blog is Taking Off!

To do that you have to understand the community here and then figure out what kinds of things they like to read, or what lights a fire under their sense of curiosity. A little controversial topics certainly helps too, but first you need to know the boundaries otherwise like me you will find yourself violating those unspoken barriers. When or if you do, you have made a huge mistake and you have to back track, apologize and back off a bit, other wise you create discontent and animosity, the exact opposite of what you are trying to do to fit in at Active Rain.

There is one other thing I did while getting to the 1,000 comments and that was to tell people or invite folks here at ActiveRain to post up to 3 links under their names as a tag line on their comments on my Blog Posts. My goal is to have 1,000 comments by the end of the month, within the first 3-months, which is a very good feat if you can do it. My strategy worked, after I posted this article:

http://activerain.com/blogsview/331753/Backlinks-are-Important-to

It is working and I will get to 1,000 comments within today's blogging day, meaning I went from zero to 1,000 comments in only 20 days. There are some Active Rainers who have been here a year and not achieved that so I am quite delighted with the progress here. My advice to new Active Rainers is to post "early and often" and to provide your best content and best articles.

You need to put thought and craft into your posts and if you do that you too will join the "1,000 Comment Club" like me. I thank everyone for commenting on this article, I only need 20 more comments to put me over the top!

Thanks to everyone, and don't forget to subscribe to this blog so you can find out

about all the action and activity going on here on a constant basis.

Lance:  It looks like you have been one busy little puppy.  Keep on blogging and commenting.  Maybe we will name an award after you.  Take care...

Sally,

Thanks you are a good sport, and that is a heck of a lot of comments, and one other thing I failed to mention in the articles is that if you post comments to others blogs they are more apt to post them to yours as well. So, you have proven that point, Sally, you are my inspiration, not only do I love your blog, I value your great advice to a newbie like me. You are impressive in your statistics and your awesome content there. Lance

Karen Anne,

Thank you so much in fact when writing that Blog post I was considering your high point scores there, and your informative and somewhat controversial blog, at least the political stuff. Both you and Sally are at crusing altitude and I am just taking off, but I hope to join you eventually up there where the view is so great. Lance

Okay...well, for some reason I am thinking you and everyone else who has a bunch of info in their heads...that I want to scoop up on :) So I guess you could say I am inspired by MANY :)

You know I'm just making up some stuff....or not...to give you another comment :)  Hey...if others can rack up comments for b.s. I can help someone out who has a lot to contribute...  Oh...and I believe the word for that commenting on others posts and responding to comments on yours is called...reciprocating....TLW wrote that post :)

P.S. And you're not a newbie....only on AR :)

Sally, you are cracking me up!  You're doing great, Lance.  And deservedly so.  You're putting lots of work into it.

Sally,

I do thank you because I am now at 988 comments and only 12 more to go, indeed I do have a lot of information stuck in my head that I need to give back to the World that gave it to me thru experience, I think sometimes that the point of these exercises is to exchange information, while building community, I do not belive that it is about just making funny little trite posts with good titles to attract or even sometimes trick people into posting, but some do that. I am glad you are not one of them. Lance

As you know, the spirit of Active Rain is to help each other.  The best way that I've found is by hitting each others' website, to improve internet search rankings.  I checked out your website, and I liked picture of your business.  If you have a second, please reciprocate the favor by checking out my website at http://www.southerncaliforniaappraisers.net/

Ardell,

Yes, I have been putting a lot of work into it. But, I like you, as I read in a few of your excellent posts, you only get out what you put in. So, you are working your market extremely efficiently, just like I am working hard to do the same here. I think it is great that you are leading by example. Lance

01/11/2008 01:35 AM by Lance Winslow (The Car Wash Guy)

Trick people into posting...or commenting?  Either way...I figure if it's good I'll comment.  I may even not comment if it is good. I do however believe that people write the way they want...and we either read it ...or not. And comment...or not.

Humans....what a concept...with different opinions..different thinking. Ya gotta love it. :)

Gregg,

Indeed, I will check out your website right now, very true, very true indeed,. Lance

Sally,

You have a great attitude about the whole thing, that in itself makes the experience enjoyable and worthy of our time. I would add that it is important to create a little bit of a buzz if you want to prevent a blizzard in your blog and watch it ice over. Its much better to be bold in your blog. Lance

Lance - Here's another to add - good luck in your quest, although you are probably there already.  Keep on blogging!!

I have a hard time with bold. I was compared to Patty Duke today...wow. :)  But hey....I have lived my life ..  hard...and now need mellow :)  I have good readership and the readers I want to attract...and currently in contract from a relocation post. I like this balance....is this not good?
