Relay For Life ~ Survivors Celebrating Life!
The Wilsonville Community took part yesterday, in the annual "Relay For Life" June 16, 2012 and it will continue Sunday June 17 at the Wilsonville Town Center Park. Johnny Limbo and the Lugnuts, a local band took part by giving a show on Saturday afternoon in the Town Center Park and Sunday, Mark & The Memphis Kings will perform as part of this event as well. It was pretty amazing to watch and see the survivors in their purple T-Shirts walking the survivors lap yesterday, it makes one realize just how many lives this disease has touched.
The aim of the Relay For Life committee is to raise $75,000 or more. Teams simply send their members onto the course to complete as many laps as they can. The teams work in hour long shifts, they walk through the night and into the next morning in a 24 hour marathon effort. So many people, as well as local businesses, have opened up their wallets with donations in support of all the teams participating.
Relay for Life, with this event, has helped communities across the globe celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, to remember those who are no longer with us , and to fight back against the disease. Priceless.
