“A Horsey Affair” brings horses of a different color to Newnan GA!

Horse sculptures in downtown Newnan GeorgiaIf you happen to be traveling through historic downtown Newnan Georgia, you may be taken aback by the herd of brightly painted horse sculptures scatteded along the way.

“A Horsey Affair” is a free public art display that includes twenty-five hand painted statues gracing the historic Old Courthouse Square and adjacent parks!

The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society organized the project which enlisted the help of local artists and sponsors in an effort to raise money for a new interactive children’s museum.

The exhibit has been a huge success and a boon for downtown Newnan, as visitors spend both time and money as they try to find and indentify all twenty-five horses!

You can get more information at the Newnan-Coweta Historical Society or at the Visitor’s Center in the Old Courthouse!

These are fantastic.  Here in Houston, this was done with painted cows.  It was spectacular.

The southwest enjoys these painted ponies too.  Quiet the eye catcher! In Amarillo Texas they are all over their city.  Enjoy the color and uniqueness they offer.

Richard, like Paula we had the painted cows here. They seem to travel to many places. The horses are amazing! I just love it and am glad you shared it with us. Next time I speak to my dad I will impress him with my local knowledge... LOL.

Paula...

It remarkable that Newnan is the first town in Georgia to do this ... Atlanta ... Hellooo! THX.

Q...

We're the first in GA to do this, and it's been awesome for the "City of Homes!" Thanks.

Andrea...

Each horse was painted here and many depict local scenes. But I like the way that they are dispersed about town! Thanks.

Bobbie...

Our historic downtown area is vibrant and alive. Thanks.

Richard - WOW!  I was fortunate enough to see the cattle in New York years ago and I would really like to see this display.  My daughter and grand daughter were "horse girls" and they would also enjoy this.  My daughters horse was named Blue and we always called her a horse of a different color.

Hi Richard,

This is beautiful! I love this type of art throughout downtown areas.  I would love to come visit this event in your area.  Do you know how long it is going to be up?

I so love these! We have a little river town about 12 miles from here that did this a few years back, they still have one that stands outside the local inn. Thanks for sharing!

Gary...

They are awesome. THX.

Barbara...

How cool is that? Most people really enjoy the exhibit but horse people LOVE the show! Thanks.

Cindy...

The horses will be up through mid July so you'll have to hurry! Thanks.

Patty...

I wish that they could stay, but that's what makes it special! Thanks.

Up in the Seattle area we have this same display but substituting pigs in for horses. Sponsoring a museum through the effort was a great idea, definitely good things happening over there in Newnan, Georgia!

We have something similar here in Texas. We have cattle that are painted differently than normally expected! All I can say is I love art.

Talk about a horse of another color. :)  Great pictures... and I'll bet they're even more beautiful in person.
