Talk to anyone who does business with the Senate, read political blogs about the goings-on in the Senate, look at the number of bills the House has passed that will see no action in the Senate, read or see news accounts of this Senator or that jetting off to here or there on an "inspection" trip, look at the Senate's outright unwillingness to pass a federal budget, and look at the Senate's refusal to rein in the abuse of power in the Executive Branch, and you can draw only one conclusion. The Senate is useless - at least for the balance of this session.

Save us all millions of dollars by furloughing the entire Senate and their staffs for the rest of this term. If they're not going to work - and they've demonstrated that this is the case - then why continue to pay them? I'm not talking about going through the motions and showing up for debates and committee meetings. I'm talking about substantive action - something they seem unwilling or incapable of doing.

Don't know how much a change of leadership in the Senate in November will help, but this clearly isn't working.

Steve, I just don't understand the filibuster thing needing 60 votes to stop that. Isn't 51 a majority to get something to pass. Someone needs to look at that in the Senate I think.

Raymond,

There are a lot of technological changes that can and need to be implemented. Does it really take a team of people to fly off somewhere to do an inspection when it can be experienced on video with no travel? :)

Jordan,

That so far down on their list, it maybe has fallen completely off. :)

Gary,

That's an internal Senate rule - they've got a rule for every occasion. :)

One giant vacation and campaign is all most elected officials use the office for. Look at 0bama's family, vacation after vacation and not a peep (hardly) from the media about it.

I don't like the looks of the upcoming elected officials at all.  I would like a 'do over' button

Than,

Why should the media complain - they get to go along? :)

The best place for the Senator's to be is out of Washington, but not on trips. They should be spending their time in their district and away from the lobbyists.

Good luck and success.

Steve has hit on a good point the Senators will be working on getting re-elected and not the business of the country over the next several months. They need to be in their districts explaining to the votes what they have done or not done and be on unpaid leave.

Good luck and success.

We need to pay them only while they are in session and limit the time in session.  The rest of the time, get the hell out of Washington.

Lou,

The work of the Senate is over for the year. Stop the sessions and the pay. :)

Dale,

The constitution only calls for them to meet once although it doesn't say for how many days. :)

That whole group, ALL of them, should be driven out in 2012 with an entire fresh crop of Americans elected. They should be ashamed.

I really believe a change at the top in the senate will make things happen and come November(January) that should happen.

Mike,

That will release the logjam. It won't eliminate those who have served too long and the excessive days off. :)

We have a lot of work to do to get the corruption in both parties out of the Senate.

Going to take several terms and attrition to even have a chance. :)
