New Poll: Should REALTORS Report Current Housing Market Conditions?

Real Estate Reporting SurveyI have received mixed feedback over the years regarding my style of housing reports and whether or not I am providing a valuable service to people involved in the Tallahassee real estate market.

I love feedback, whether positive or negative, as it helps provide guidance for the future articles that I publish here. My focus has centered around housing reports and the topics that are important to our customers who are buying a home or selling a home in Tallahassee.

Recently, I received (in the same day) two very opposite bits of reader feedback, and both related to my housing reports.

The first was praise from a customer who felt that the reports on the Tallahassee Real Estate Website helped her make some tough decisions on what she needed to do with her home, while the second came from a customer who felt that I was too negative and that I should be "pumping up the market."

Real Estate Reporting In TallahasseeThat, of course, made me curious. I do not feel like I am negative at all, I am just reporting current housing information and then offering my best advice under the circumstances.

But I wonder if other readers feel strongly either way. Is it my role in housing reports to only post when positive events happen? Should I buy some pom poms and cheer like the staff at NAR? I will turn to our readers for their opinions.

Please take the one-question Housing Reports Survey below (you need to click through to the Tallahassee Real Estate Blog if you are reading this in an email).

Reader Poll - The Role Of Realtors In Housing Reports

Real Estate Reporting

On Housing Reports

I will be curious to see reader feedback on our housing reports efforts. This poll will stay open for a while (some of our polls have exceeded 500 responses).

Of course, if you would like to expound on your reply, please use the comment section below this post and tell us completely what you think about the role of Realtors in housing reports.

Facts and professional analysis. Nobody expects 100% accuracy in predicting future values. Heck, if the experts at NAR can't do this how can little folks like us be expected to?

Joem what a great post. I clicked thru and voted. I do believe we should report the facts and answer questions about them and as we are professionals offer analysis and insights.  Those insights should be as fair as possible

Thank you for voting Charlie. I'll be curious to see how the Realtor votes come in. Consumers want the info. Realtors are the ones that sometimes think we should be cheer leading.

If we consider ourselves professionals, then we should be able to report facts that help keep client expectations in line with market realities, as well as providing professional guidance and making sound recommendations based on our analysis of the market statistics. I consider myself factual but positive...definitely NOT a cheerleader type.

Thanks Ken, it just seems to be a trend that won't go away though.
