Long Skinny House. 170' long. 9' wide.

 Looking for Tucson real estate?

Someone got a permit to build this.  Amazing!  Even more amazing is that they're building it on spec.

That's the carport you're looking at.  It will shade the front half of your Kia.  I walked through the house. The 12' ceilings keep you from feeling like you're walking through a very, very long tractor-trailer.

The lot, according to the listing agent, who can't find a plot plan for me, is 700' long.  Price?  Under $300,000.

It has two bedrooms, one at each end of the house, and 2 1/2 baths.

I told my Darlin' that it's a batchelor's dream.  I could open the front door, and walk from one end to the other with the leaf blower going full tilt.  Housecleaning's done!

Stay tuned.  I'll follow up with this as it comes closer to completion, and write a full post on it.  This is pretty interesting!

And that's the real estate opinion of this Tucson, Arizona mortgage lender,

Hi Mike:  That is quite long and not way too appealing.  Maybe when it's finished it'll be a little bit more attractive.  I like the leafblower idea, that's my husband's idea of cleaning:)

Mike - that is bizarre.  Plain and simple.  Makes you wonder who came up with that plan and why.  I'll be following this one to see what it evolves into.

It looks like all it needs are wheels and "WalMart" written on the side and it would be ready to go!

Mike,

It sounds like a converted single train garage to me.

Or maybe for a family that doesn't get along, Master bedroom at one end, kids rooms at the other, two football fields in the middle.

Mike:  Maybe they want a home that they can finally MOVE from city to city!  I have Sellers who wish that they could take their current home to the new area and this 'style' could be the answer to their dilemma!!!  Hilarious!

Hard to make out the company name on the sign but is it really that ironic? :-)

WHat will they think of next? As a lender, I am not sure that they will be able to comp that for an appraisal. Maybe it can be turned into a great poker palace for a bunch of poker player.

Mike, THis looks great!..ha ha.. Do the wheels on the house go round and round?...I can't believe someone gave them permits for spec

Mike, quite an interesting house..I would like to meet the people who are building it..I'll bet they're a little off the norm as well! LOL

Mike, this is most unique, to say the least.. and my clients are complaining about bedrooms that are 10 ft X 10ft.  LOL

01/11/2008 07:38 AM by Gail Tassey (Keller Williams Realty)

Did you happen to see the house in Toronto for sale that was only 7.5' wide? Wasnt that deep either it was sandwich between two buildings. Amazing.

Mike--It looks more like a strip mall than a house...Geez!!

01/11/2008 08:59 AM by Teri Eckholm, Realtor® Anoka County MN (Keller Williams Premier Realty)

So, I can be 10 feet from my back door and walk 170' around the house to get there...

I would like to see a floor plan, to see if the architect/designer was truly inspired to make something out of the mainstream function well at all.

Are there windows on the other side?

Nice curiosity post, Mike.  Looking forward to your updates.

Just like my Mother in law her idea of cleaning was to "sweep the room with a glance" Keep us posted on the progress.

Mike,
Unbelievable.  Yelp, the leaf blower cleaning is the only good thing I can see about this house.  Marketing adjectives...."unique, one of a kind"  certainly will apply.

01/11/2008 09:36 AM by Cynthia Tilghman, Realtor® Onslow County NC Home Specialist (Kingsbridge Realty, Inc)

Wow, a king size bed will barely fit with room to walk around it. Who on earth would like this? Well I guess there is one person?????

01/11/2008 10:38 AM by Judy Tuscano, NH Real Estate Professional (Prudential Verani Realty)

Mike!  Where do you find these beauties?  lol.  Does it come with your own private 1-room bowling alley?  No... I guess that wouldn't fly... you'd have to go from 2 beds to just 1!  :)

Very interesting is all I have to say.  I am imagining the finished product.

I suppose the buyer could always go with a train theme.  I'm not sure what's more bizarre; 170' long or 9' wide.  Being built on spec makes ya wonder too.  Perhaps the finished product will be an architectural masterpiece.  Hey, anything is possible, right?

Mike:  How much under $300 ... that's the ugliest home I've ever seen.   Tell the agent to give away a free pair of roller skates with this.

01/11/2008 05:08 PM by Jan Wood, Realtor (R) - Nashville TN Real Estate (RE/MAX ELITE)

I wonder if this is an architect's dream or just a builder with an itch under his cap? Please keep us posted. It could be really  cool or a real disaster.

Who on earth would build such a white elephant?  I get the 170' long part but skinny little rooms?  Misplaced hobos I guess.

Who ever built that should be in jail.

Hey Mike my husband got a good laugh at the leaf blower idea!

Thank you all for commenting

I had no idea 30 or more of you would have something to say about this, and by the time I checked it, it was just out of control!  I'll do updates as this comes together.  I'm hoping Nancy, the listing agent, will comment.  I spoke with her today, and told her about the post.

FUNNNY!  I'm catching up on all of my reading this morning with that first cup of coffee.  Under $300K huh? Better run out and grab that one!

01/15/2008 08:03 AM by Judi Barrett (Integrity Real Estate Services)

Mike - this is hilarious! I just sent out an email that showed a similar house in NYC, I wonder if I can find it again. Amazing...you say how much is the list price?  What size is the lot again?

05/10/2008 10:26 AM by Gilbert Arizona Real Estate - Candace Robinson (HomeSmart )

Candace,

The list price was $270,000.  The lot is about fifteen feet wider than the house.  The house takes up every buildable square inch on the lot.
