Airdrie to Host Alberta Summer Games 2014

Alberta Summer Games It is official!  Minister of Tourism, Parks and Recreation, Christine Cusanelli has announced that Airdrie will host Alberta Summer Games in 2014! The event is open to all Alberta athletes between the age of 11 to 17 to compete in the following popular summer sports: Baseball, Basketball, Canoe/Kayak, Cycling - BMX, Cycling - Mountain Biking, Football, Inline Hockey, Lacrosse, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Triathlon, Volleyball - Beach.

It is anticipated that more than 3,000 athletes, coaches and officials will participate in the games, according to Alberta Sport, Recreation, parke and Wildlife Foundation. Peter Brown, Mayor of Airdrie said that the city has what "it takes to make the Alberta summer Games a great success." The city, located north of Calgary,  is a home to some major teams in Alberta like Knights of Airdrie (senior men Lacrosse team), Airdrie Thunder (Jr. B level Hockey) and Team Airdrie ( Jr. C level Hockey).   

The Alberta Games began in 1974, the event takes place every two years. 2012 Summer Games will be in Lethbridge between July 26-29. Tickets for the opening ceremonies are now available.
