I'll be the first to admit, I don't have a green thumb. Truth be told, it's probably closer to terra cotta than forest green. But, I love gardening (actually I really love eating stuff from the garden) but there was just too much on my plate, so to speak, to get a garden in this year.
That didn't stop me from finding time to get a few plants in the ground - zucchini, squash, tomatoes, potatoes and some kind of bean my gardener extraordinaire friend told me any idiot could grow. Time will tell on that one I suppose.
Although there are several nurseries in Fairbanks, my absolute favorite is Ann's Greenhouse on Sheep Creek Road near the University of Alaska Fairbanks. If you haven't been to Anne's you're definitely missing out. Ann Dolney has been growing vegetables and flowers of all types with amazing success since 1965.
Do you need help planning a vegetable garden? Have growing questions? Look no further than Ann and her wonderful staff. Ann's is wonderfully low tech; her success is built on having a great product and years of experience growing in the challenging Fairbanks area. If it's grows, they've probably got it and can certainly help you get the most from your Fairbanks garden.
Stop by and check out the greenhouses. There are several that, as of this writing, were full to the brim with plants just waiting for a new home to bloom in.
