Plainfield has created a week long celebration to honor the Dr. King. The schedule covers a wide gamut of subjects, from business to social consciousness raising. The first day of activities begins on Friday, January 12th with a Business Forum at the Mohawk Lodge #307 located at 1325 West Third Street to be held from 6:00 - 10:00 PM (This event is sponsored by Mohawk Lodge #307). On Saturday, January 13th there will be a program entitled Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - With A Tribute to Education at Hubbard Middle school located at 661 West Eight Street to be held from 2:00 - 4:00 PM (This event is sponsored by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Omicron Chi Chapter). Sunday, January 14th is the day of An Ecumenical Service of Worship at Rose of Sharon Church, located at 825 West Seventh Street, starting at 5:00 PM
(This is sponsored by Concerned Urban Clergy). Monday, January 15th is filled with great activities. There is a March that starts at 8:00 AM at the PNC Bank on Park Avenue and culminates at the Plainfield High School (This event is sponsored by Mohawk Lodge #307). This is followed by a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast at 8:30 AM in the Plainfield High School Cafeteria (This event is sponsored by Frontiers International). Rounding out Monday's activities is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. City - Wide Commemorative Celebration at Shiloh baptist Church located at 515-17 West Fourth Street at 6:00 PM, (this is sponsored by Shiloh Baptist Church). The weeks celebration culminates with toe activities on Tuesday, January 16th. First there is the tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King at City Hall Library located at 515 Watchung Avenue, at 6:00 PM (this is sponsored by the NAACP Plainfield Chapter). The week's activities conclude with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - Message For The Black Community, to be held at the Plainfield Public Library at 8th & Park Avenues at 7:00 PM (this is sponsored by the People's Organization for Progress).
