South Waterfront FREE Event - Portland Aerial Tram

South Waterfront is a neighborhood and area of SW Portland which is built as a sustainable Metro living area.  The South Waterfront community is active and engaging.  This coming Saturday and Sunday there is a nice event highlighting the Portland Aerial Tram.

I took this photo of the Aerial Tram which leaves South Waterfront and hoists passengers up to the OHSU (Oregon Health & Sciences University) campus.

June is "Get to Know the Tram" Month

To commemorate its five years as an iconic part of the city’s skyline, the Portland Aerial Tram declares June “Get to Know the Tram” month, including guided tours, bicycle rides and hikes, art exhibits and classes, and partnerships with Portland Children’s Museum and Ritz Camera are all planned for weekends throughout the month.

Each weekend of activities during “Get to Know the Tram” month is organized around a theme. This week includes:

  • Arts and the Tram, June 23-24 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., will feature an exhibit of work by local painters, filmmakers, and photographers who have been inspired by the Tram.

Free. It's the one word people will hear even if they hear nothing else. Sounds like a wonderful event and well worth the price.

Hi Carla, I have to admit that the first time I ever took a Tram Ride was in Albuquerque, NM, and I was glad to get to the top. It wasn't something that I was excited about doing, but I can see that it's very popular in Portland, and it looks like some great views and scenery on the way up the hillside.

How cool...get to know your tram month :)!  Love it.  We don't have a tram here in San Antonio, but we did have one in Albuquerque New Mexico where I grew up, (it's still there, I'm not lol ) and I loved going on it.

I wish I was closer.  I have been on a couple of trams in the wine country in the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe.  I wish I was closer.  This looks like a great event.

Wow, how cool is that. What a neat thing to be able to do, and you've captured it perfectly. Bet locals and visitors will appreciate knowing about this. Great feature, and well deserved.

Carla - What a great opportunity for people to "get to know the tram" unfortunately I have an issue with heights, so I'm not sure I'd be one of those people.
