Shocking That Thieves Now Target Children For Identity Theft!

Wow..never gave it a thought before but I can see why it would be easier to target children who would not be checking their credit for years to come. I came over from Kathy's post this morning..I missed this so glad I did!

I've heard of this recently. It's so sad what some people will resort to. Thanks for the reminder to keep an eye on even our children's identifying materials.

Lizette, it only makes sense because it can take decades for anyone to find out! It's amazing that we don't have something in place in this country so that this kind of stuff doesn't happen.

IN many cases it is the parents or close relatives that steal the identities.

Lizette:  Sad but true ... and perhaps the most alarming thing is people do not know it until real damage and many years have gone by, in most cases.  I wrote a blog about this topic a while back.  And what made me the most mad about this crime, were the number of instances that the child was related to the perpetrator.  Makes it even worse!  I've told both of my boys that we are going to run periodic credit reports on the grandkids ... just to play it safe.  VERY valuable info and post ...

Now that children are given a social security number at birth, there are even more ways to commit fraud.

For heaven's sakes, where will identify thefts strike next.  I think the government needs to rethink requiring a baby to get a SS#.  Why did that start anyway.  Now that we know that baby's identified are being stolen we have to check their credit every year, just as we check our credit.

Amazing to me that these thieves can put that much thought and effort into the wrong thing. Imagine if they channeled their energy into something positive. Wow.

One of the other sad features of these types of issues is some criminals are so creative that if they put their minds to lawful pursuits, they could help the economy, society, and do it in a lawful manner.
