Neighbors of the championship golf course at Crofton Country Club have been asking "What's going on?" for the past month, as they've watched busy workers replace golfers on the fairways.  The answer:  a comprehensive renovation of the golf course and conversion to Zeon Zoysia turf.

The golf course re-opened for limited play very quickly, but today marks the grand re-opening for full play by Crofton Country Club members, with slightly modified rules that have been distributed to golfers.  Reciprocal arrangements with other clubs remain in effect through the end of June, however, if members prefer to wait until the new growth is a little farther along.

If' you live anywhere in the greater Crofton area, contact me for information about membership at Crofton Country Club.  Timing couldn't be better, since the Initiation Fee has been slashed for new members and special financing is available for a limited time.

This is great news for the Crofton Golf Course faithful members.  It must the the season, Margaret ... the Chicagoland has a few courses doing much the same thing.  I say when the courses are hopping, it's a good sign for the economy.  Hopefully the Crofton course is quickly full of golfers ...

Margaret, I think that today the sprinklers would be very popular!  It was a little warm for playing golf.

Chris Ann - This post was inspired by a friend of my husband who asked this very question.  He happens to live in a house on the 5th tee, and he was really puzzled by all the activity.  I couldn't help thinking that other non-golfers who live in the community had the same question.

Tim - Thank you.  I suspect it may be of some interest to some folks in the community, and I was lucky to get these great photos of the work in progress.

John - Me, too!

Gene - You're right about the value of golf courses to the local economy.  In a community where we lived in South Carolina, the golf course, club house and pool were long ago abandoned.  Now the neighborhood has lost value and the streets are filled with bank-owned homes.  So sad!

Pat - Believe it or not, Larry and I spent three hours at the pool with our grandkids today, and three more hours at the golf course as they participated in the junior golf clinic.  Hot, hot, hot.

Margaret, those fairways appear to have some subtle undulations, that would make for some thought to shots. I'm in, but the distance might be prohibitive

Joan, The golf course is the centerpiece of our community, and hundreds of homes line its fairways.  Even those of us who aren't fortunate to live "on" the golf course, enjoy the beautiful well-groomed open space as we drive past the golf course en route to and from our homes.

Ed, The presence of homes along both sides of the fairways on many holes of this golf course can be very intimidating to anyone who is not used to "keeping it in the middle."  One thing is sure... kids who grow up on this golf course excel in junior competition and we've had a number of kids grow up to become pros or leading amateurs in the region.

Michael, the club has done an awesome job of keeping members informed about the project and its progress.  Not sure they did the same with the community, and neighbors are interested - even if they're not golfers.

Bob, we're very fortunate to have hundreds of homes lining the fairways of the golf course.

Gita, it is good!

Richie, me too!  In fact, a lot of Crofton people chose this community for all that green lawn rather than the golf.
