Please Don't Molest The Alligators!

Please don't molest the alligators - that is exactly what the sign said and I had to wonder who had that bright idea!

John Chesnut Park, Palm Harbor Florida

Naturally, there are gators in all of our Florida lakes. Alligators travel and while there might not be one in your lake today, that doesn't mean one won't show up tomorrow. You do NOT want to feed gators since they then associate humans with free food. If you don't have any, well YOU might become that tasty snack.

But the idea of molesting a gator.............killing them is illegal unless you have a specific permit and I can't think of any other way to harm them, so HOW are you going to molest a gator??? Just wondering....................

Barbara Jo, that sign is quite funny and don't know what they were thinking of when they chose those words.

Hi Barbara Jo, One of my past clients left her garage door open to bring the groceries in and when finsished she closet it. The next morning she opened the door and as she was getting close to the car door, she had company that I guess was wanting to hitch a ride. You guessed it, a gator decided it wanted to stay the night with a warm car motor.

Good Evening Barbara-Jo

The gators have been around for awhile.  With all the major developmets in our country, we have to share the space with the likes of alligators.

Barbara-Jo, I'm as puzzled as everyone else by the choice of words for this particular sign..."molest" the alligators? LOL! :)

Barbara-Jo, that sign is ridiculous - as if alligators can read? What where they thinking and who would be stupid enough to plant a sign like that by a swamp or a lake, especially when you never know when an alligator may be lurking near by?

Great alligator story!

I totally wouldn't put it past my boys to throw things at an alligator or try to poke one (thus getting themselves chased). We're heading to Southern Utah this week and my 13 year old is determined to find a rattle snake, despite my out right forbidding him. Boys!

So, if I'm understanding, you don't dabble your toes in the water because the gators associate you with food?

Too funny, odd choice of wording for a sign - but, no one will ever forget it!

Barbara -- came over from Pat's listing.  Let's see, molesting alligators - by throwing things at them, maybe even fireworks, since they are now going on sale for the Fourth, sounds to me to be a way to shorten one's lifespan.
