Okay, so it is HOT! So hot you don't want to move a muscle unless it is to bring a cool and refreshing beverage to you lips! (see the cool salad at the bottom - you'll want it for your cool lunch or supper I'm sure!!)
It is TOO HOT FOR BIRDS TO FLY!!! This guy is sitting on a new hydro pole that was installed and then abandoned behind my home. He normally flies in, talks for a bit, and then flies away. Today he is staying put!
But things still need to get done. By you, by me, by everyone . . .
I find that our business sloooooooows done incredibly, based on the weather.
People just lose their "get up and go" and appointments get postponed and decisions delayed . . .
It is almost like they expect the world to stop revolving until it can cool down a bit!
I am so thankful for my clients who are people of their word . . .
They show up and they do what is expected of them.
They don't let the heat get under their skin and they don't throw tantrums like toddlers simply because they're hot and bothered.
We're all hot!
But the one thing we can all count on is that this too shall pass!
Until it does, wear cool, light, natural fabrics like cotton and linen.
"Breathable" is the term you're looking for!
But you do not have to look like a tourist on vacation!!!
You can still be a smart casual, professional person.
Leave the flip flops at the pool, please?
Ladies, sundresses are far cooler than shorts and are far more flattering for the majority of body shapes.
Remember to bring a light sweater or jacket for when you go indoors into air conditioning.
Linen works well in dress pants for guys. Just look at the pro golfers for ideas - they're not allowed to wear shorts and they look pretty cool!
Eat cool and refreshing meals - yes you can have berries for breakfast and salads for lunch and dinner, all summer long if necessary. I don't even venture near the stove or the BBQ when it is this hot!
Here's one of my favourite new salads to try:
Arugula Salad with Mango, Macadamia Nut and Avocado
Keep your cool kids and remember to look after your pets in this hot weather.
They DO NOT need to be walked on hot, melting pavement at mid day!!
Keep them cool, with plenty of water available.
DO NOT take them in the car !!!
Consider putting out a large bowl of water in front of your home or business for the dogs who are forced out in this heat.
If you must take them out, soak a bandana in ice cold water and place it around their neck. Walk the shady side of the street only and try and keep them on grass.
Giving your dog a lightweight summer haircut helps prevent overheating. Shave down to a one-inch length, never to the skin, so your dog still has some protection from the sun.
And this from the ASPCA: High-Rise Syndrome, which occurs when pets-mostly cats-fall out of windows or doors and are seriously or fatally injured says Dr. Murray. "Pet owners need to know that this is completely preventable if they take simple precautions." Keep all unscreened windows or doors in your home closed and make sure adjustable screens are tightly secured.
Thanks Dole for the salad recipe and photo!
