I had been working with a prospect who decided to buy outside the area. Three weeks passed when I received a call from him asking me to do a CMA on their condo. I obediently sent them the information. My prospect followed up with a phone call asking me questions on what he could list his property for, etc. He also let me know that he had received comps from other agents.
Now the fun starts: The interview.
The next day I received at least 6 emails with multiple questions. I realize that all the questions I was being asked were in response to my prospect reacting to the other agent(s) he was interviewing. As the day wore on the questions got petty and negative. I can tell the other agent(s) are beginning to bash the competition and this prospect is following or playing along with the bashing. An example of a question, "So and so is rank #1 in this association, where does your firm rank?". My response is "That association is a neighborhood association not the Realtors' Association". I refuse to play along. I answer all questions directly without attacking anyone.
I believe that one should be hired for their merit, not by attacking the competition. I have been in sales for over 10 years, not all in real estate. I will not be bated to be negative or attack my competition, that to me is a sign of weakness.
