I have seen my far share of "Fixer-Upper" homes in my day, but this one might be a little far gone. This home sits on the edge of Hwy 1 on the shirts of Moss Landing California around 30 miles south of Santa Cruz. I don't really know the history of this home but it sits on a HUGE piece of acreage with a very well know business attached to it.At one time the owners of this home were very wealthy and the ancestors that took over the home, business and acreage probably still are ... "So why did they let this home become run down like this?"Is this home a tear down or is it worth fixing-up? And this home may be old enough and have enough history connected to if for it to become a (Historic Landmark) and restored.

Oh my goodness. I guess for most eyes this would be a teardown. BUT in trained eyes this could probably be resurrected, albeit, with much cost. Was it resurrected.
Hello Doug ... This home continues to sit like this, for what reason I don't know. I took this photograph around one month ago on my travels through California.
Vegas Bob ;o)
Guessing that the land is worth far more than the house - also guessing it would be far cheaper to tear down and rebuild than it renovate . . . but there is probably history in this home.
Bob, I think there is enough there to say I think it is a good fixer (major fixer) and perhaps some Historical Landmark opportunities, it's a beauty.
Bob, WOW! This home must have been gorgeous in its day. It would be so great to see it restored to its original glory, if someone had the resources for the renovation.
Jeff
Thanks for stopping by everyone and there are guest houses and other buildings on the acreage so I am thinking that this has become a "Historical Landmark" ... We will see with time and Vegas Bob will have to keep tabs on this home, because there is a Seafood Restaurant in Moss Landing that I returned to 3 different times because of their great food ...
VB ;o)
Looks like a goner to me VB. What a shame with such beautiful design features. Much more than a redo it'd be a resurrection for sure with little of the original structure usable. Too many openings that let mother nature in and party.
Your photo sure makes it look interesting enough to catch one's eye; like you I can't help wondering why someone would allow it to sit and decay.
I guess that will depend on what will bring people out to that neck of the woods after one has plunked down a ton of money for restoration and renovation. Probably cost the owners too much to maintain a white elephant.
By just glazing quickly at the photo ... It looks like it need a new roof, windows, some siding, etc. and as long is there's no termites, mold, etc I really think this home could be fixed up and be worth a great price!
PS ... I am sure it will need electrical work, plumbing and some interior work also ...
VB ;o)
VB * I suspect it is in the process of being moved and that it is "resting" while the final site it prepared....beautiful home for someone with DEEP POCKETS!
VB - This would certainly be a labour of love to restore, but what a stunning home it once must have been. Have you done any research into its history? Would be fascinating to know what ghosts roam there...
Having fixed up an old school house I can say YIKES!!!! I used to think of the historic value now I think it could use a good coat of flame. lol
Well, I love old homes so I would say YES to fix it up - BUT probably would scream NO when I saw the price tag! It is an absolute shame though for such a landmark - and piece of history - to just deteriorate like this. Keep us posted on the progress of the home!
