As all avid fisher-people know, sometimes you come home with more fish than you can use immediately. Freezing them is a good option, but they freezer burn quickly unless you freeze them in water - or seal them in a bag from which you've removed all the air.
That's why everyone in our family uses Food Saver vacuum sealers.
Last week, when my men came home from fishing, we discovered that our Food Saver wasn't working. It pulled the air out of the bag, but then would never seal and turn off. Since we use the vacuum sealer for other things - like dividing up family size packages of meat for future use - we thought we'd worn the poor thing out and would need to purchase a new machine.
We borrowed our son's Food Saver to get the latest batch of fish in the freezer, and I got on the phone to Jarden Consumer Solutions. I thought I'd find out if this machine could be repaired before I spent the $100+ on a new one.
The customer service representative I spoke with COULD have told me no - that I needed a new vacuum sealer. But he didn't do that. Instead he asked me some questions about what the machine was and wasn't doing, and he recommended new Food Saver gaskets. The cost? $6.35 delivered.
The new gaskets arrived within a week, and my old FoodSaver works perfectly once again.
So, Kudos to Jarden Consumer Solutions. This company really does put customer satisfaction above quick profits - and you know that when the day comes that we really do wear out our Foodsaver, we'll be ordering the replacement from them.
