Google Page RankGoogle is early with this PR update. Apparently they are still smacking some people down for buying/selling links. All my sites are either the same or went up a little.

SEO Diva is now a PR3, which I'm happy about, since she's not very old and I've neglected her terribly.

If you don't have the Google toolbar installed on your browser, you can still look up your site's page rank. Whether it's "for entertainment purposes only" or not, we all like to know what ours is, don't we.

Kay,

I checked my three sites and they all had page rank 2. Is that good or not? Two of them are older sites and one is a new site.

Mike - PR2 for a new site is good. It means you've been recognized and have some backlinks. Older sites should be at least a PR4. You probably need more links.

kay,

I took down the links page because Google penalized me. I removed it and came back to the top overnight.

Mike - That's amazing!

The kind of links I'm talking about (that you need) are from other sites to your site. Like directories, blogs, etc. If you look through my blog you'll find lots of places where you can get links to your site.

thank-you,

I already read most of your posts and will check the links.

Kay, my site and blog are both still a page rank of 0. I have no where to go but up from here

Jill - I like your attitude. However, your site is 4 years old and it shouldn't be a 0. Are you using a templated format? I noticed you have some original pages. Link to them from your home page so the search engines will find them - that should help.

Thanks for the info...

Kay - I noticed that Google's PageRank was moving around yesterday. I really try not to pay attention too much, but my PageRank went up one notch for most of my websites so far.

I'm also a 3. I guess I need to do some work on this.

Hi Kay.....when you determine your page rank...and it stinks  :)   do you just work on your "key words" within your site. to improve...??  thank you...

Thank you, Kay. I have really only been blogging on a regular basis for the last four months. This is about the same time frame that I have started working on SEOing of my website. I have seen major improvement in that time frame. But still not anywhere near where I hope to be. Thanks for the tips on the links. I will have to do some reworking of the homepage.

01/11/2008 10:17 PM by Jill Wente - Spring TX Real Estate (Prudential Gary Greene)

Marlene - I hope it was good :)

Konnie - A couple of tips - your name should not be in the title, and the title should only contain two or three of your top locations, so it should read something like "Northern Virginia Real Estate Listings - Prince William County Home for Sale." (The other towns and cities should be in a bulleted list on your home page.) The first line on your site should read "Northern Virginia Real Estate Agent Konnie McKee." Drop the quote down lower on the page. Those things alone will help.

Jill - Okay, that makes sense.  Here's a tip for you - only use a word once in your title - right now you have Spring 3x and Texas 2x, which can seem spammy to the SE. Then in your content I don't find the keywords "homes for sale" "real estate" or "real estate agent." I feel another post coming on...

Pat - You're welcome!

Ryan - Good job!

Lisa - 3's not bad but keep at it.

Kay-

If you don't mind my asking...  I read somewhere that Google only updates PageRank once every 3-4 months...  is that correct?  Although my site is new, I've been working really hard to build that page rank and it's NOT moving!  I'm hoping it jumps up one of these days, if it's really only updated every few month.

01/11/2008 11:44 PM by Chico CA Real Estate by Sandi Bauman, Chico CA Realtor (Chico Homes Real Estate)

Sandi, typically it's every 3-4 months, but they surprised everyone and did it early. You have loads of links which is great. I'm going to finish this comment on my next blog where you commented...

01/11/2008 11:55 PM by Kay Frenzer ~ Real Estate SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Kay - I didn't realize they were doing it early...thanks for filling us in. Is it really all that important though? I really don't see it having any effect in your position in the serps which is what people should care about.

01/12/2008 11:23 AM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Bill - It doesn't have any effect in a site's position in the serps, you are right about that. Nevertheless, since Google still uses it to "punish" link sellers, it must have some value - an indication of Google's trust. Why else would Google be so concerned about using 'no follow' on paid links? I prefer getting links from sites with higher PRs.

01/12/2008 11:47 AM by Kay Frenzer ~ Real Estate SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Kay - Okay... my PageRank is still going up. On my Windermere homepage, which is a long subdomain off Windermere.com has gone from a PageRank of 0 to 3 in the last 2 weeks.

01/12/2008 12:55 PM by Ryan Martin - Bellingham Real Estate Agent (Windermere Real Estate / Whatcom Inc.)

I tried looking up my page rank and nothing shows up. lol The bar is empty.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

Joe, your pr is a 2. Not bad for the age of your site. You've got too many content links...make the  links to the listings pages "no follow" links. You should have more pages on the site that contain original and unique content, and those are the pages you should link to from your home page content.
