1400 Bar & Grill - Historic Crolls Building
The 1400 Bar & Grill is owned by Yani Placourakis and Mike Cooper. It opened in the Historic Crolls Building in 2011 and the owners, Yani and Mike say that they created 1400 Bar & Grill to “Wake up Webster” to it former glory. The address of the 1400 Bar & Grill is, what else, 1400 Webster Street in Alameda.
The current 1400 Bar & Grill had been previously known as Crolls since its inception in 1883 as a professional sports bar when John L. Sullivan, Gentleman Jim Corbett, Jack Jackson and other great professional boxer stayed at Croll’s Hotel. The boxers trained at Crolls Gardens and sometimes fought there, too. Professional baseball players also stayed at the Crolls Hotel after they played ball at nearby Washington Park.
Jack London, Harry Houdini, Al Jolson, Joaquin Miller and many senators and governors enjoyed basking at Neptune Beach, then called the "Coney Island of the West." They stayed at Crolls Hotel enjoying good food and cold drinks at what is now the 1400 Bar & Grill.
Historic Crolls Building, the current home the1400 Bar & Grill, has a rich history on Alameda’s West End. Yani and Mike’s goal is to return Webster Street as the Alameda destination for great food and entertainment.
The 1400 Bar & Grill offers delicious yet moderately priced meals and appetizers. They serve a breakfast menu on Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 am and a late night menu from 9:30 to 11:00 pm. Additionally, the patio is now open for dining and parties.
I write about all things Alameda. On Fridays I write a blog post called Things to do in Alameda which is about events for the whole family to enjoy in Alameda. If you like what you see here, please come back for more or visit me on my Facebook page Living In Alameda.
