How do you Reward your Child?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

How do you reward your child after they keep succeeding?  They get straight A's AGAIN, they place in U.I.L., they haven't missed one day of school this year, and so on and so on.  I am looking for a very original idea.  I get tired of everything being centered around money and what are you going to buy me mentality.

I want to make my daughter understand how proud I am of her without it being so simple as buying another game.  I want it to be a memory.  Something she will always remember.  She is still young enough to truly appreciate whatever I do, without thinking mom is a dork.

I am welcoming all ideas.

April, I used to reward my son with a day at the Wild Animal Park, then we would have a carnic (a picnic in the back of the van) with the door open to the open fields of the Park.  He absolutely loved this special time with me.  If you want you can also reward him with bringing a friend.

Enjoy all the moments you can with them, I actually never rewarded with money.  I actually used tickets, then he could buy what he wanted with them.

I don't reward my kids for behavior that is expected, such a good grades. Nor do I reward them for not missing school because I expect them to stay home if they are sick and I want other kids to do the same.

But when I do celebrate its often something like an ice cream party for the family so the whole family can share in the congratulations and jubilations.  Another idea is to offer to have a friend sleep over and have pizza.  We keep it simple in our house. I prevents the "now what do I get" questions.

That is exactly what I am running into.  I must admit, I recently got married and before it was just my daughter and I...I spoiled her unintentionally.  However, now I am paying for it.  She's a great kid, I just felt guilty I guess.

April...

Having raised identical twin boys and being the Grand Mother of 5...

I agree with Mary. Rewarding expected behavior is something I never did/do.

The greatest reward you can give a child in unconditional love :)

This is a great topic.  Our son is much too young (9 months!) to be rewarding yet, so I love seeing the other ideas floating around.  I just love the idea of a carnic!
