Albuquerque Academy Star Curtis Beach…exemplifies good sportsmanship.

Former Academy Chargers Track & Field decathlete Curtis Beach is a Super Star in my book.  The entire Albuquerque Academy Charger Community was cheering him on hoping that he makes the 2012 US Olympic Team.  That, in and of itself would have been pretty special; the last time an underclassman made it to the Olympics was in 1992. It was a tough meet.  With 60 degrees temperature and rain, I think things just did not come together for him.  He finished 11th overall in the Decathlon.

Now his act of selflessness in the final event of the decathlon demonstrated his true character. Here is an excerpt from the Duke University website, describing the event:

EUGENE, Ore. - Sophomore Curtis Beach is used to blowing away the field in the 1,500 meters, the final event of the decathlon. However, at the 2012 United States Olympic Trials at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore., he exemplified the notion that sometimes sport goes beyond points scored. Realizing that he was out of the running for Olympic qualification, Beach put his own competition aside and showed respect for his competitor by allowing the overall winner and new world record holder, Ashton Eaton, the first place finish in the final event”

Curtis…just remember, “We Believe!”
