Sacramento's own Broadway star is no longer Wicked!
Teal Wicks, Sacramento girl and graduate of Natomas High School before earning her drama and musical theatre degree at UC Irvine, spent three years in Los Angeles, San Francisco and on Broadway in the lead role of Elphaba (the green-faced witch) in "Wicked".
The New York Times said, "Teal Wicks absolutely stole the show with this virtuosic performance. ... It is not every day that I see singers with such virtuosity and mastery of the subtleties of the human voice. I'm certain we can expect many more great things from Ms. Wicks in the future."
This is just a sampling of her work in the role, singing "No Good Deed" from the Broadway production, filmed by an audience member. Not the perfect videography, but you can get a feel for Teal's talent.

Although she earned many kudos in that role and many felt she was the best Elphaba ever, she felt that it was time to try other things, and after coming home to rest up and spend some time with her mother in Carmichael, she moved on to an off-Broadway production of "The Blue Flower".
But while she was in town, she was kind enough to make a guest star appearance in a fundraising Music Circus production of "Wicked" at the Sacramento Community Theatre, even though she is not really a member of the touring company.
They were very pleased that she agreed to do it, and if you read all of the reviews she received on Broadway, you would see why. She was also named as "Broadway's Hottest Girl 2011" in an online poll. You can't get much better than all of that!
She has expanded into some guest spots on television, such as on "The Good Wife", and may be doing more of that, but she is always keeping her eye on some juicy parts in Broadway musicals in which she can use her singing talents.
Critics and audiences have been talking about her since she appeared in the lead in "Pippin" on the 2006-7 National Tour, and in every role she has sang in since.
Teal is just about 30 years old, and for a local gal, she has reached some pretty great successes, and I'm sure there are many more to come.
Currently, she is starring as Julie Jordan in "Carousel" at the Goodspeed Opera House in Connecticut, a theatre that has sent 19 musicals to Broadway, and whose productions have garnered many Tony awards.
You can keep up with her on her facebook page.
Go, Teal!! Sacramento is cheering for our hometown star!
