Are You Ready?

Are you ready? This question may be one asked at the beginning of a long anticipated moment in which much time and energy have gone into planning. A father may ask his daughter, the bride, before they walk down the aisle of her wedding? A real estate agent may ask a buyer before the settlement on the home he or she is purchasing.

Are you ready? This can also be a very sobering question. A question asked at a moment of crises or dramatic change. I recently officiated the funeral of a man in his early 50’s who died of a massive heart attack. He was about a year or two older than me. Another friend’s husband just suffered a heart attack. These two situations made me ask this question of myself.

Am I ready to embrace today as though it may be my last day of life? I so often take life for granted. I have many more years of life to vacation, to love my family and friend, to work, to live. However, what if I do not?

This question can hold significant emotion. But it is one which I believe is important to ask on an occasional basis. How important is that tough real estate deal? Yes, I know it is, but in the scope of your most important values, how important is it?

Live your life. Live it with vigor and purpose. Make a list of your top five priorities and analyze how well you are doing in fulfilling these priorities. Now get busy living with these values in the foremost of your mind. Are you ready?
