Not a bad deal. Nice to see people still take pride in their neighborhood.
It's a sign of a good neighborhood when someone wants to this, and clearly this person is concerned about the appearance of his own neighborhood and what might happen if he decides to sell his home.
I would consider this a "lead."
CHRIS ANN most people usually just do it, this guy tried to do it right.
Unfortunately, the banks don't care about anything except the bottom line. They'll never agree to it because of the liability and the possiblility that the guy will give up doing it and they'll be fined for it not being done.
What a nice man helping out his community. Wish there were more people out there like him.
It's a really unfortunate situation, but one I've seen nearby before. A house went into foreclosure and became abandoned for a while. A neighbor put his house on the market and many people on the street helped keep the foreclosed house from looking abandoned. Good news for the neighbor who was selling too, they settled on their home for top dollar! Now imagine the grass hadn't been cut and the papers hadn't been picked up. I think the story would have had a different ending...
One of my colleagues had her home for sale. It came up second choice many times. The reason was usually the state of the lawn of the house next door.
Starting to see it more and more here where neighbors are maintaining the front yard. Reality of today. All in favor of fining the banks for lack of maintenance say I....
Scott,
Smart neighbor even though I realize the liability is there. I love that the neighbor wants to set the right tone for the next neighbor who moves in.
All the best, Michelle
That's taking the good neighborhood policy to the max. DId the bank give permission for him to continue?
I would have probably told him I couldn't give my permission but if the lawn got mown and I didn't know who did it, how could I tell them to stop.
Scott - I understand the liability, and yet I hope the bank will allow it. It's in everybody's interest.
I am surprised he asked. I find most people just do it for the same reasons mentioned. What is interesting to me is how some banks put effort into some properties and leave others to fall apart. The ratioanle behind some of this makes you wonder.
Scott, what a great story! I'm glad the lawn angel didn''t wait until you dealt with the bank red tape before sprinkling a bit of green lawn dust in front of your listing.
Hi Scott,
Oh the stories about unkempt REO properties!
You created an outpouring!
Phil
Good story. There are some people who mow the lawn for their neighbors, if the neighbors are old and can't take care of the lawn.
There are a few homes in my neighborhood that are like this. It's a sad thing to see.
Scott-congrats on the Featurel So many issues not the least of which is that neighbors of these homes suffer to if the property is not cared for. Banks or whomever owns the properties need to place this in the hand of local Realtors and vendors.
Scott,
Its so easy to spot them, since the banks don't keep on top of the upkeep. Its a shame the process takes so long to complete, since it leaves an eye sore in the community until the property is sold to a new owner.

It is wonderful to hear that there is still pride of ownership in our neighborhoods. This gentleman does not want this one house to make his and everyone else's in the neighborhood show poorly. I am happy that you were able to give him that control from the curb back to the neighbors that live there!
