University One Condominium in Baltimore Maryland is located walking distance from the Johns Hopkins University Homewood campus. Built in 1965, the 15-story building offers condo apartments that range from studio to oversize two bedroom units. The neighborhood amenities for this property make it a great choice for anyone who wants to live in a secure urban location without needing a car.

Rentals at University One usually coordinate with the academic year. There is currently a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom unit for rent on the third floor for $1,875 which includes all utilities. Not every rental offering is formally listed in the multiple list, many are by word of mouth or directly through the condo website (which is a tad unreliable but the management is making efforts to improve this feature).

The secure entrance includes a lobby that is staffed 24 hours a day. All visitors have to sign in to gain admission to the building. Residents are issued fobs to open secure doors. The front desk staff takes great care to greet everyone and manage package deliveries. There is never any trouble having something delivered to this building.

Roof top pool at University One Baltimore MD

From Memorial Day through Labor Day University One has a chic roof-top pool that's a great place to relax. Its a small pool for sure but the staff keep it very tidy and fresh. The building also has an exercise room near the pool and a common room on the 1st floor that can be reserved for larger gatherings. Here is a view from the roof deck that nicely illustrates the proximity to Johns Hopkins Homewood campus - you're looking out over the baseball and lacrosse fields.

The make-up of the building has changed over time. It used to be geared towards primary residents and it now has a lot of investor owners that rent their units to Hopkins students. Not every building in the neighborhood has the tolerance for students that this one does. At times it can feel like we are an unofficial dorm for Johns Hopkins University. I must say this is one of the best things about this building, I meet people from all over the world who have come to Baltimore for JHU. Its also fair to say that most of the students are quiet as there is a lot of serious studying going on. There are also a number of medical residents who reside in this building. Hopkins campus security has a strong presence at University One.

Hopkins Homewood Campus Gate

It is a short walk to Hopkins campus from Univeristy One Condominium. We are located at the top of the Charles Village neighborhood and across the street from the famed Guilford neighborhood. You can walk out the front door and get to Barnes and Noble, Starbucks, Bank of America, and a host of inexpensive places to grab a meal. My favorite neighborhood location is The Baltimore Museum of Art, I go there most weekends (admission is free!).

View of downtown Baltimore from University One

The best units at University One face south and offer a beautiful view of the Baltimore skyline. You can even see the water in the Inner Harbor. This photo is not especially doing it justice, it is something you have to see for yourself. At nighttime the lights sparkle and make the view extra special.

JHMI Shuttle stop at University One

The JHMI Shuttle stop is in front of the building at University One. For the Hopkins community this is a private bus serive that will take you to Penn Station, Mt. Vernon Peabody campus (the music school) and beyond. It is easy to hail a taxi cab in this location. Best of all while there is some garage parking for vehicles there is an abundance of Zipcars along University Parkway, so if you need access to a car from time to time they are waiting for you outside your front door.

Monthly condo fees include all utilities, they are on the high-side but its best to keep in mind that you are getting a lot of community benefits in this location. Most condominiums this age in Baltimore have monthly charges in this range. Property taxes are $2.21 for every $100 of assessed value in Baltimore City.

While so many benefits of living at University One Condominium in Baltimore Maryland are geared towards the Hopkins community, you don't need to be afiliated with Hopkins to love this location. The units have remained affordable all these years and that has constantly attracted people who want to live in the city without breaking the bank.
