24 Comments on A PIG WITH LIPSTICK ~ TALE OF THE OVERDRESSED HOUSE!
Paula - while I've often seen Mimi types of houses, I never called them that until right now :)
Sometimes less is more...especially when you are trying to sell your home. It is our job to tactfully let sellers know what needs to go in order to present their home at its' best.
I can just imagine what that home looked like. Your analogy and comparison to Mimi from the Drew Carey Show helped me with the visuals :)
An overdone house like the one you described swamps one, makes it hard to breathe even. Not a good idea!
I have seen some recently. One my client said looked like a "dressy New Orleans whore house"...His words as I have never been in one!
Sellers in the Woodlands and surrounding area need to listen to this agents comments, she knows what she's talking about.
Yikes! Picturing Mimi as a house is frightening indeed.
AMEN! And this holds true whether home is a high end property in The Woodlands or a cabin beside the water in Riverside! TOO much of anything is NOT a good thing when selling a home! BRAVO, Paula!
Paula, I showed a house on Monday that I had previously shown 3 years ago. It has been on and off the market for the last three years. The decorating is very taste specific. I gave the same feedback I gave 3 years ago. The decor has to go. This seller won't do it. I don't suspect it will ever sell.
Hello Paula,
Buyers need to be able to see the house, distractions lose sales!
Oh my, I saw one of these homes too...they wanted to do a busy type of swirly tile to go with the swirly walls and countertops and cabinets. I had never seen anything quite like it. It actually reminded me of a matisse painting.
Paula, that's a great way to put it. I see them from time to time, and they are distracting. I find that my sellers get so distracted they forget to look a the house. They end up spending their whole time finding the next surprise. Yeow!
Too underdressed and it doesn't show well. Too overdressed and you're right, a pig with lipstick. Buyers have a very hard time seeing past both extremes. Good other side of the coin Paula.
Paula, so true. Sellers need to look at their homes with a critical eye and remove themselves from their own personal tastes. You described it in such a way that I can visualize it quite well.
Cal
Paula -- been there and shown some of these Mimi homes --- most times, less will definitely bring more $$$ to the bottom line.
Describing the home as being like Mimi, would suggest not bothering at all. That's terrible
Paula - I've seen homes like you describe, and it's very hard to get past the decorating and see the home for what it truly is.
Oh my it sounds as if you all have those types of home in your market areas as well. The one we saw looked a bit overdone in the photos but the true picture was actually being there. They did a good job not showing it all in the pictures. The surprise is upon entering and being met with larger than life decor. It was interesting and so displeasing. Thanks for stopping by all!
Good morning Ms. Paula congratulations on the feature. Overkill is always a issue. Thanks for the post got to go.
