FIRES in Colorado Springs Hit Home and Put Things in Perspective

If you haven't been watching the news this week then you don't know that the greatest tragedy in ColoradoColorado Springs Springs history has happened.

Saturday 23 June, 2012 a small fire broke out in the foothills west of Colorado Springs.  With 100+ degree weather and 65 mph winds today on 27 June the fire has burned down the pristine and beautiful front range of Colorado Springs.

Currently over 6,000 acres have burned and displaced over 32,000 people.

To think that the mountains that frame Colorado Springs will be black for the next 20+ years makes me sick to my stomach.

In this picture you can see the Air Force Academy football stadium and if you know Colorado Springs this will put it in perspective.

But in any disaster you have to put things in perspective.

  1. To date - no casualties
  2. Everything lost can be replaced
  3. Families are safe
Although many homes have fallen to the fires, and some of these are short sales we are negotiating, the fact that this is all cosmetic is the silver lining.  And the overwhelming out-pour of support from the community to take in families and pets is reaffirmation of the goodwill of people in the time of need.

Stay safe, pray for our city and for the hundreds of fire fighters that are here helping.

It is a blessing that no one has been hurt.  This picture (while is a nice coverage of what is going on) really shows the magitude of these fires.  Prayers are in the air that they will stop soon, real soon and that it continues to be no dealths in the meanwhile.

Hi Karl - Our thoughts are with you guys down there. The firefighters have done an awesome job keeping people safe and minimizing property loss, but the speed and destructiveness of these fires is incredible. It's going to be a long summer, and I'm afraid we're just getting started. We're all hoping for some rain soon.

We're all thinking about you over there Karl. I have a friend living in the area, and she's on evacuation watch. I've never had the opportunity to visit Colorado Springs, but I hope that one day soon I can go and see the beautiful area. Stay safe!

Thanks Pauline and Lottie.  I just got off the phone with several of our Realtors and it is crazy and so many are evacuating.  We have title companies right now that are evacuated.  Right now its burned over 15,000 acres.  I'm still sick to my stomach.

Karl it's so sad watching it on the news.  My thoughts and prayers are with all of you - especially those that lost their homes and all those people evacuated.  Stay safe.......
