lureFor those of you that read my blog regularly you'll remember that I spoke about this concept in a previous blog post called "Bait Site Marketing".

I've been developing this concept more and more with a couple of other sites and clients.

Using more generic keywords to capture search engine traffic, and then diverting them to your site through careful content linking is a great way to add new traffic streams to your website.

I've done a little 2 page report that outlines the concepts and shows some screen grabs as evidence.

Have a read through and let me know what you think in the comments.

I don't see an issue as long as it isn't out of hand.

There was a story on another site about an agent (who was here) that had at least 300 domains pointing to his site.  He was rocking on Google... and then nothing.  They sandboxed him.  He apparently started looking like a link farm.

Were the 300 domains simply redirecting to his main one?

or were they big link farms with 100 crappy banners and no useful content on them?

These are things that will get you sandboxed for sure.  If you are providing relevant information on the subject at hand... you can set up as many relevant quality sites as you want and they will only help you.

Like with anything, there's a right way and a wrong way to do almost anything.  It's why I suggest hiring a "Web Strategy Expert"           (sorry, I couldn't resist :)

From what I saw (didn't hit more than a couple), they all had VERY similar content, but they were entry pages all pointing to the same site after the initial page... stuffed with keywords for that page.

Duplicate content and keyword stuffing are sure "ban me bait" :)

Riel - I think it is funny that Link Bait sounds like such a bad thing. It reminds me of bait and switch, but it is a very acceptable practice and even a suggested tool by Matt Cutts. Thanks for sharing your free report with us.

Riel, this is a good report. We have a different name for them, but they work well to drive traffic to the main site, and provide backlinks, too.
