So now Nestor flies back to Houston Texas and I am here in Florida. We begin emailing each other different ideas about using the Internet. The year was 1998 and the Internet was not as sophisticated as it is now. After a few emails back and forth we started talking on the phone. To give you an idea of 1998 and computers, Nestor and I brought 2 of my computers in to get another hard drive added. Nestor told the computer man that we would need to have computers with at least 1 gigabyte and the guy laughed at Nestor and said that would never happen, that there is no need to have that much space on a computer!
Not long after that we were talking on the phone every day; night and day. At the time I was working for a wonderful lady broker at a boutique realty. Nestor was working for an independent company that only charged a transaction fee for each deal.
During this time my X husband was out of control. He did not hesitate to come over to our home, which he had never lived in because when we ran away from him I bought my own house since he would not leave the marital property. My kids and I were living in fear after he found out where we lived and if you read my post about our wonderfully haunted house you know that Gil was watching over us until Nestor came into our lives.
Nestor was SO nice to me! I had been abused for 20 years, lived in fear for 20 years and felt unloved and hated for 20 years. At first I did not believe there were any nice men in the world and I was NOT looking for love or a relationship. Neither was Nestor. But our mothers who are both passed away had a different idea for us. They kept putting us together.
Nestor would talk in a gentle tone, he would compliment me, he would tell me how beautiful I was and still tells me that every single day 10 years later. I could not remember having someone compliment me the way he did.
We were both going through stressful, expensive and vindictive divorces. I had 5 children with my X husband and he had 2 children with his X wife. Now we have our Tristan. We always say the two X spouses would have made a perfect match! They are so much alike. It was nice to have someone who understood what you were going through to talk to about the events of the day.
So this began a long distance relationship over the phone and over email. 
One day I had the most wonderful surprise. Nestor sent me two dozen roses. We fell in love with each other before ever seeing each other again after the CIPS class. To this day, Nestor still brings me flowers and now he is teaching Tristan to bring me flowers. Whoever wins Tristan’s heart will be truly blessed with his wonderful big heart and generous spirit just like his father.
Nestor called me one day and said that he was flying to Florida to see me. I was so nervous, did I look alright, had I lost enough weight, would he like me as much in person as he did over the phone, and on and on…
I told him I was not ready to see him and he was adamant, well, he was flying in and it was my choice to pick him up at the airport or not! I felt like a little school girl falling in love for the first time.
When he arrived I did show up to pick him up from the airport. He booked a room at the Hilton on the water. Nestor loves the ocean. He was born in Havana Cuba. His mother is Spanish and his father is French and Spanish, thus our name Gasset. Being close to the tropics is in his blood, the ocean is like a magnet calling Nestor to it.
My daughters loved him straight away. They had been so neglected by not having a good father figure in their life that Nestor was an angel for them. . My oldest son was not around and my two other sons were 16 and 14. They met Nestor briefly and went about their teenager life.
On one of the nights Nestor stayed at my home and slept on the couch. This would be one of many nights where at 2 a.m. in the morning there would be pounding and yelling and screaming at the door from my X husband calling me all kinds of names. He did not know that Nestor was there at first. My daughters had crawled up near Nestor on the floor next to the couch in the middle of the night to have him protect them from their biological father. They lived in fear every day. They never knew when he would come and take them away.
We had to be so careful. Nestor wanted so much to open the door and kick his teeth down his throat but had to restrain because any thing his X Wife could find to use to make sure that Nestor would never see his children again, she would use. So we did our best to ignore the tyrant rages. Even restraining orders did not keep him away from us.
We all wished that Nestor would stay forever. He was the nicest man we had ever known. And then we had to say goodbye as he flew back to Houston.
