WASTE NOT WANT NOT

This is not a business, per se, but Waste Not Want Not is one of Clay County's most outstanding contributions to our society.

From humble beginnings in a garage on the Grace Episcopal grounds, to its new building, Waste Not Want Not is a non-profit organization that is attracting national attention in its effort to fight hunger and poverty.

Over 1.3 Million Pounds of Food was salvaged last year and distributed in a 10-County area. Food that otherwise would have ended up in a dumpster was put in the hands of other organizations who were able to distribute it to the needy in our Northeast Florida area. 

One quarter of the food produced in America each year is thrown away, and Waste Not Want Not seeks to capture that food and give it to those who are in need of a helping hand.

Under the Good Samaritan Laws and the volunteers at Waste Not Want Not, unused food from catering events, fish tournaments, wild game from hunters, bread and food approaching sale dates, citrus from yards, and crops gathered from farmer's fields have found their way to the tables of the hungry and impoverished among us.

Love this idea....Dad and I had just this morning passed a garbage truck in a restaurant parking lot and we were talking about all of the waste...this is a buffet place and I know they throw a lot away!!

Deborah, all that food could have been donated to a place like Waste Not Want Not. You and your dad can contact them and get one started in your area!

Now this is somethign that should be done in every state and every city and ever town! To waste this much of GOOD food when so many are hungry is an atrocity.
