“Telling Everyone What I do for a Living in Ashford, CT”

 

There is a restaurant in Ashford Connecticut, called “Midway” that I frequent near my home. I had called in an order on my way home. I have been speaking to one of the owners about mortgages every time I stop by. He always asks the same two questions, How’s business and what's the interest rate today?

Anytime I am asked that question and there are folks around, I’m going to make sure someone else is listening. I hit the jackpot. As I was speaking to the owner he finally told me, he has 8 years left on his mortgage. I told him I can do an 8 year mortgage for him. He then told me his rate was 5.5%, I told him he was crazy, that I can get him a 3% for the 8 years. On a $186,000 loan, that is some serious savings!!

 

So music to my ears he said, give me your cards again, I’ll call you in the morning. On the other side of me, I hear a woman saying let me have one of your cards, can I call you tomorrow as well. I spoke to her for a moment, she then said can you speak to my girlfriend, she is sitting at our table. She invited me to sit with them, which was a little strange, but I spent a few moments and gave out my third card in a matter of minutes.

 

I can tell you the moral of this story, unless you tell those around you, what you do for a living, folks just won’t know. You can focus on making this happen or you can wait for things to happen to you. You can make this choice every moment.

 

I don’t know if any of these conversations will convert to mortgage business for me, but it just cements my commitment, to constantly telling those around me, what I do for a living.
