Pick up the Phone !!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Cortiers Real Estate

The Cell phone is a necessity in our business, but why don't some agents use it?  I mean its there in their hand, hooked to their belt, attached to their purse, and yet when you call you get their voice mail.  You leave a voicemail, and hope to hear back from the agent.  NOT !!   If you are lucky you get them to actually anwser the phone and they are polite, glad to hear from you, and full of infomation about their listing, and boy they encourage you to go sell it for them.  Don't count on that same person to anwser or return a call when you have a question about the property that they had only minutes ago, they were so eager to tell you about.

Then there are the ones that do call you back, but have never bothered to listen to the voice message, they just pushed the button to call back to whom ever called them.  You now you get to repeat yourself, though that could be a good thing, because maybe you can word your thoughts better.

But how do you tell your client, that they can not view that house that required special instructions from the agent, or the infomation they asked you to get for them can be found.  Why ? because the agent will not pick up the phone or return the calls.   Does their client know that is the kind of attention their agent is giving to their property?

To these agents, and you know who you are, I ask of you.  If you don't have the information, call back and tell who ever is calling that you are sorry, but you do not have that information yet.    Call back and give those showing instructions, who knows this may be the only buyer you might get.  Don't burn you bridges behind you.   Other agents just may give up trying to work with you in the future, and then where is your market.

Bringing you home...

Stephanie - That can be so very frustrating. I've had that happen to me... and it's not fun when your clients don't understand.

My Broker in Charge reminds us every week in our office meeting how easy it is to pick up a phone. He also reminds us why we should.

I pick up my phone except when I am actively "doing" business. I will call you back but please leave me your cell number - not the office!

I know Realtors who have cell phones, but do not put the number on their listings.  Instead they let buyers agents leave a message on a voice mail that doesn't even page them.  Then they check it a couple of times a day.  How about that for service?

This business is one that really benefits from the use of cell phones.  I don't understand why so many agents don't get it!

I am in the mountains and a lot of timwes the cell does not work. So even with it you miss it from time to time. But I agree with your post especially in a time when everything is expected to be done in real time

I am always amazed at agents who don't advertise their mobile number!  It's as if they want it to be a challenge to contact them!

Here's to a GREAT '08!

Be of service! The rewards will come!

Does the term "secret" agent mean anything?

This has been a problem forever!  I hate when I see that I have to call a listing agent directly to set up a showing because I never know how long it will be before or if I hear back!

Hi Stephanie, I'm guilty of not having mine on all the time.  Some days I'm on the phone more than others.  Some times I need to concentrate on what I am doing.  But yes I should try to keep my phone on more often.  So since I've read this, I will try to change that. Thanks for sharing.
