Japanese Tsunami dock in Agate Beach, Newport, Oregon

The steady stream of visitors to Newport continues today as the Japanese Tsunami Dock awaits removal from where it has landed in Agate Beach.  This photo shows the tourist draw that the dock has provided to our community. Luckily, the dock stranded itself near the Agate Beach Wayside State Park, a day use recreational facility with plenty of parking which is about 1/4 mile from the dock itself. There are restrooms and barbeques, everything you need to make a day of it.

The arrival of the behemoth has been a boon to merchants after a long, rainy and slow winter tourist season. Many locals are hoping it stays on the beach for as long as possible this summer. It could be removed anytime, so come soon if you want to see an exciting sight on the Oregon Coast. You might even find an agate or artifact.

Please note: If you visit the Oregon Coast and find something that looks like a tsunami artifact, please call 211 to report it and have it tested for invasive species and radiation. It is very important that all items found are logged and tested as they arrive from Japan.

Many of the people viewing the dock were impressed by the sheer size, some were there to touch it, kids were there in busloads to write reports about it for school, others just wanted to take in a great day at the beach while viewing a piece of history. Li, I have heard you are getting debris up there, this has only just begun, I am curious to see what else lands here as Agate Beach is a catch all for glass floats and other items. Great agate hunting too. Thanks for visiting :)

Michael, I wish you could see this thing! It is a truly awesome sight, especially when the weather is nice. To touch it and know it came from Japan and is now sitting here is a feeling that is indescribable. Always good to see you here, thanks for reading my blog.... Hope your holiday is great!
