Wheel it go-around in circles?

The “Great Wheel” opens today, June 29, 2012, in Seattle. The 175 foot Ferris wheel was built by pier 57, owner Hal Griffin who hopes it will provide a distraction from the dismantling of the Alaskan Way Viaduct and by creating a family-friendly designation for tourist and visitors in Seattle.

The Great Wheel will lift riders approximately 200 feet above the pier where they will be treated to spectacular views from one of 42 air-conditioned/heat controlled gondolas most of them will have glass bottom floors.

From this height the riders will be treated to some of the very best views of the picturesque Seattle skyline and to the west Elliot Bay and the Olympic Mountains.

Hours of operation

Located on Pier 57 the Great Wheel will be open from 11 am to 8 pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 am to 9 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket prices, adults can ride for $13.00 (age 12+) and children (aged under 12) can ride for $8.50.

Adrian, you hardly mentioned anything about the light show that'll accompany it's rotation.  By the looks of it the attraction will be seen for quite a few miles around.  So patriotic in it's red. white and blue lights too, computer controlled of course!  Can't wait to see the many messages it'll convey.

Adrian

Guess this is one of our destinations next time we visit Seattle. Reminds me of the one in London. Thanks for posting. I had no idea this was going up.
