Dogs, bunnies, cats, birds, turtles, fishes, hamsters – the list can go endless as to what are the most common pets that your child wishes you would allow him to have. Most parents would give in to the creed of their child because of their love. But do you know that there are more appropriate reasons to allow pets inside your house?

Companionship is the first and foremost reason why you should allow your child to have a pet. Whatever kind of animal it is, let your child give it a nickname. See how your child grows together with his pet. Observe how the pet gives unconditional love to your child whom the pet will consider his master.

Allowing your child to nurture a pet can teach him or her many things. It can impart the importance of compassion with others as they feed, clean, and bathe their pet. It can also enhance their sense of responsibilities making them ready for bigger roles in the future.

As much as there are health concerns like asthma linked to allowing a child to raise a pet, there are also health benefits that can be reaped from pet caring. According to some studies, children who have pets in their homes show higher levels of emotional stability than to those who have none. There are also some studies that show the linkage of reduced tantrums in children with pets. This is due to their capacity to reduce the stress levels encountered by the kids during playtime and during school time. For instance, letting a child stroke the fur of his cat or dog can significantly tone down his stress levels making him more adaptive to the situations he will encounter.

Raising a pet should not be considered a luxury due to the number of benefits that your child can get from it. More importantly, letting the child interact with his pet will enhance his social skills that he can use when interacting with people around him.

Apart from the benefits that can be obtained by your children, you can also have some benefits as the household owner. Your pets can be your security guards. Getting some dogs, cats, and other kinds of animals increases security and protection against thieves and burglars. This is particularly true with pets capable of producing alarming sounds such as barking, purring, etc. Pets like fishes, birds, and bunnies are very refreshing to look at especially when they are wandering in their artificial habitats. They can also act as stress-relievers of some sort.

If you want to make your child happy, giving him a pet as gift can put smiles on him. It ca also be your first step towards reaping the benefits of pet-care discussed herewith. Your local pet shops are waiting for your visit to get that appropriate pet for your home sweet home and for your beloved child.

Yes, I think pets are the best.  They really are so much fun and provide so much love and comfort. those with pets are generally happier and live longer.  It's truly a win win.  Also, I find that my customers that have pets are generally nicer people, too.

I grew up in a family with Cocker Spaniels and I have had Springer Spaniels for the last 25+ years - sometimes they are the only ones who understand what I am saying!
