Zombie SubwayI don't usually pay attention to too much fictional silliness out there but SLOW on all the things people discuss out there I learned about the impending doom of zombies returning to eat our brains and we must PREPARE for them. Actually it was intended to have a funny story line to prepare for any disaster like windstorm, earthquake, fire or terrorism. But lately I thought,

Beware Of The REAL Zombie Apocalypse.

That is to not lose our flexibility and critical thinking. With a storm moving through Virginia and Maryland Amazon Cloud Services had sites at Netflix, Pinterest, and Instagram DOWN.

OH MY. What is a social media addict to do?

Well we could complain about the very long duration outage on Twitter!! Ha Ha. But seriously PEOPLE do need to get a life outside staring down at their Blackberrys ALL DAY LONG and walking into fountains inside shopping malls cause they weren't watching where they were going. Don't laugh, it has happened.

Other things out there, fresh air, REAL PEOPLE, you can look in the eye and HEAR their laughter. Does it SEEM like the end of the world when some key web sites are DOWN? Well to these addicts it does. They THEMSELVES are the robots, the zombies. THAT should really scare them. Do your best with technology maybe have some redundancy of connection with WiFi and cellular, have some multiple devices, smart phone and computing device, but DON'T GO CRAZY and be such a prisoner to technology. You might have to give yourself a break like when the electric goes out at your house with candles and card or board games, and what a novel idea, TALK to someone live in person. The Amish may be way ahead of us in the way they live with simplicity.

What about volunteering or go to the local library or a museum? Take a walk outside? No batteries or server required.

BTW I don't think the monster zombies will find much nourishment in the craniums of the 'addicted' Pinterest user or someone who can't play Angry Birds. Let THAT not be YOU.

On the few occassions when we've lost power, it's fun to go back to the "good old days" of board games, family conversations, and reading.  Nothing wrong with a little break from Facebook, Netflix, and texting :)

Gary, my brother moved recently and his teenagers were without Internet access for 36 hours! Lol You'd think they had survived an earthquake!

Exactly why we try to escape to the wilderness to camp or to our cabin which has no internet or cell service.  Like being on another planet.  A wonderful planet at that!

There is life beyond all the gizmo's, gadgets that have taken over much of our daily life. Time to re-prioritize and get back to family and basics.

How about a wonderful backyard BBQ this weekend with family and friends and no gadgets? I just wonder how many of us could do that......

Gary

There is more to life then the digital world, and I try to spend productive time there.

Good luck and success.
