12 Comments on Sold! A lovely house with a little help from Activerain and friends.
Hi Barbara, congratulations on your recnet sale and thanks for sharing with us in ActiveRain Land...
I have always thought I might be a tad psychic.....notice I didn't say psychotic. I was actually thinking about Mildred's house in the last few days and wondering if it might have sold. That is some kind of sign, and the signing/sold date is our son's birthday!!!
Mildred is a lovely person....always was, classy, and evidently had talents of decorating that weren't revealed in high school. Whoever bought her house should enjoy it....Glad you both got together and congratulations to you both.
On another note of 'small world'....the other girl in the favorite's picture: Betty Fortner, was a girlfriend of your now husband, Roger! Betty lived next door to Bob(by) and he remembers Dude hanging around. Benny Bell is deceased.
For the record, as if anyone cares: that Sr. picture of me is NOT one of my best.
Ronald, thanks!
Anita, that picture is absolutely darling. If you looked better than that picture you should be a movie star. Remember the little collars. Both of you and every other girl had them on. Were they detachable? Part of a blouse?
Anita I can't remember if we had several high school pics to choose from for the yearbook. I'm thinking not. We were stuck with whatever pose the photographer caught us in. You're looking pretty smug about something.
Let me give you your lovely Batesville Do you sported at our last get together in Searcy.
Oh, Don! You gave us a real glamour queen photo. But it looks doctored to me! What did you do to that picture?
Don can do anything! I like that pic. much better. Think I have a sort of Barbara Stanwyck smirk on my face.
As to the collars, Barbara: they were called "dickies" and I think the photographer had several for us to choose from, IF we didn't have our own. Mine is not the same as Mildred's....We also turned our cardigans backwards to give us that look.
And I"m pretty sure Don is right: no choice of poses.
Anita, I don't remember "dickies" in Georgia. Better look back through some old photos.
Ok, Anita, here's an old picture from my history. We were big into pulling the sweater up high around the neck and securing it with a string of pearls. Note the girl on the left, front row, for the clearest example. Did you'll in Searcy do that too?
YES, we did the sweater thing with the pearls. Look again at your blog of the Searcy High School football royalty, l953. All of us were doing that!
Google "dickie" if you don't know what it is, OR better still, give Don a minute and he'll have the history of the dickie for us. (or is it dicky?)
I accept Anita's challenge. The more popular use of the term dickey was for men's false shirt front.
A dickey (alternately written as dickie or dicky[1]; sometimes known as a tuxedo front or tux front) is a type of false shirt-front - originally known as a detachable bosom - designed to be worn with a tuxedo or men's white tie, usually attached to the collar and then tucked into the waistcoat or cummerbund.
The term is also used for the kind of collar that isn’t attached to anything and slips right under your sweater for an instantly polished, preppy look. I suspect that the collar came after the shirt front.
The Webster dictionary definition is:
Definition of DICKEY
Oh my goodness, Anita. Your memory is perfect. Look again at this picture and this blog.
Don, you did it again. Thanks. One of these days you may tell Anita to just "do it yourself!" LOL
