Reglazing Tile in Westchester NY - Refinish and Resurface Ceramic

By
Home Builder with The Flooring Girl

Ceramic tile reglazing is a wonderful and cost effective solution to change the color of your Westchester NY bathroom tile.

Tile reglazing - BEFORE

Reglazing tile in Westchester NY - pink bathroom

Do you have one of those dated bathrooms with the pink (or yellow or blue or green) tile with black lines (or if you are a realtor, do you have a client with one of these bathrooms)?  Did you know that there is a less expensive and less intrusive way to refresh that bathroom?  Rather than replacing the tile (which can get expensive), if your tile is in relatively good condition (i.e. not cracked or falling apart), you do have the option of reglazing your tile.  You can make it white or beige or virtually any color you would like.

The bathtub refinishing process involves scraping, washing and applying solvents to the surface, followed by etching, neutralizing and sanding. Solvents are applied a second time followed by the undercoat and two to three coats of Surface Specialists® polyurethane coating. ; The process usually takes about a day and the refinished surface will have a high gloss and be as durable if not stronger than the original surface and easy to clean.

Tile reglazing - AFTER

(note: black can be eliminated)

Reglazing tile in Westchester NY - pink bathroom - afterFollowing proper cleaning procedures, such as using only non-abrasive cleansers and soaps, your newly refinished bathroom will look beautiful for 10-15 years.

Refinishing (or reglazing) is one of the best options when the bathtub, shower or sink finish is worn, a color change is desired, or damage is scattered over the entire surface.

We usually complete bathtub and tile refinishing in 1 day and you may begin using the surface by the next evening, saving you a significant amount of time and money.

All work is performed on-site in the bathroom area with absolutely no mess for you to clean up and may be completed in virtually any color.

Areas that can be resurfaced in Westchester NY

  • Ceramic Tile
  • Bathtubs
  • Sinks
  • Minor tile repair (if most of the tile is in good shape, we can replace a few broken pieces)
  • Tile regrouting

Tile reglazing is much faster and more cost effective vs. replacing the tile in the bathroom.  Many homeowners don't realize the work that needs to be done when retiling.  In addition to ripping out and replacing the tile, usually you need to replace the mud job on the floor, rebuild the walls and call in a plumber to remove and reinstall the toilet.  This can get costly when you add up all of the work and you can often be without a bathroom for a week or two (which can be especially inconvenient if you live in a condo or co-op and only have 1 bathroom.  Tile resurfacing provides a much faster, more convenient option which can save you money. It's often a great option for those looking to sell their homes and fix them up without spending too much.  It is also perfect for those moving into new homes with a limited budget at the time of move in.  Reglazing can be a perfect solution to eliminate the unattractive colored tile while you save money to completely remodel the bathroom in a few years.

Tile reglazing can also be a great option if you are staging a home for sale.  It will really improve the appearance of your bathroom - both neutralizing the color as well as making it clean and shine.

We install new tile as well as reglaze existing tile, so if you are interested in tile reglazing or tile replacement, give the Flooring Girl a call at 914-937-2950.

Aimee - every project is different.  call me on my cell, if you want...but regardless, I'm sure the costs would be different in California.

Robert - Oh I'm so glad it's so timely for you, too.  Yes, a lot of people have them and they can really be a barrier to sellling the home.

Debbie

Good to know about this process. I see lots of tile surfaces that could benefit from this, and I imagine a bunch of homeowners who would like to get a new look without spending all the money to remove old tile and install new, provided the old is in good shapre.

Debbie - This is great information!  It seems like everyone in my market area put in pink bathrooms in the 50's. It's a simple thing that sellers can do and it makes such a difference.  Big ROI compared to retiling and replacing a bathtub!

Debbie, I have no idea how I missed this wonderfully informative blog.  I had NO IDEA this could be done.  I do have a question, can this be done on floor tile?  I took my clients to a home today and they had two objections - the floor tile and the kitchen.  Here's a pic of the floor tile - we all thought from the MLS photos it was linoleum (sp).  But, now, ceramic tile.  Please let me know.

Good morning Debbie -

What a great post my friend.  Tile is used in the southwest a lot and many here will find your post very informative and helpful on tile re-glazing.

Hope you're looking forward to a productive week ahead.

Great way to update a bathroom or kitchen.  I need to identify someone that does reglazing in our area.

Have an outstanding week as we celebrate Independence Day.

Robert & Lisa - Thank you so much for reblogging.

Sharon - Thank you so much.  Yes, I'm sure this will come in handy for many of your clients.

Jeff - Yes, it's a great option as long as the tile is in good shape (just not an attractive color).

Sheila - Thx.  Yes, it can make a huge difference.

Christine - Yes, now we offer this as an alternative as many of our customers can use this service.

Jerry - Excellent.  I'm so glad to hear that.

Gail - Yes, for sure.  And, we have a ton in our area.

Juli - It's not the best for floor tile.  You can do it,  but there is no warranty and I would expect that it would be problematic in the kitchen which gets heavy traffic.  Alternatively, maybe they could put a floating floor on top of the tile (e.g. engineered hardwood, cork or laminate).  I'm guessing to remove that tile (which may be on the slab) will be challenging.

Endre - Cool and glad you found it helpful.

John - thank you so much and glad to hear it's done often in your area.

Roy - Yes, it's great for bathrooms.  I'm sure you can find someone near you.

Debbie, Thanks for sharing.  I had heard of the process but thought it was messy and difficult and would not wear well...  You are a true treasure of information!

Debbie.....GREAT post and re-glaizing is a very "budget friendly" update to a "dated" bath.  I had it done years ago to my own guest bath and it has held up for 10+ years!  I often suggest it for home sellers who are looking to update on a budget!

I help brokers build businesses they love.

Great idea for a quick update for a tired bathroom. Buyers are so picky they will write off a house with even one bathroom to remodel.

Judi - Thank you so much!

Kathy - I'm so glad to hear that and I'm sure this suggestion has helped a lot of your clients.

Bob - Not sure where that is.  I'll have to look it up in a minute and see if we have someone near you.

Leslie - Yes, it's a great interim solution for buyers...they often can't afford to do all the renovations before they move in and this can provide a good option rather than passing on the house.
