Who What are your biggest time wasters?
Think about it, who what are some of your biggest time wasters these days? Are they outside influences or inside ones? Are they in your office or outside it? And perhaps most important of all- is it you?
I'm pretty sure I can come up with 2 great ones to top my list, though there order's tough to sort out. They're pretty much equal in how they thoroughly waste vast amounts of my day- and I'd really love to figure out some ways to eliminate them.
There's no doubting that our time is precious here. My top two time wasters are 1) folks who simply don't read my ads, and 2) appointment cancellations and associated issues.
1. Folks who simply don't read my ads are annoying- and everyone's day would be a heck of a lot cheerier if they'd read the dang things. We'd never have to waste time with Mr. or Mrs. "I need to move this weekend" if they'd read the ad clearly stating that the property they're interested in isn't available until the 15th of September. Conversely, Mr. or Mrs. "Yeah, it's June, but I'm looking to move in October" wouldn't be bothering you if they'd read the ad saying a place is available now and I can only hold it 2 weeks.
2. Appointment cancellations drive me crazy... I do my best to confirm an hour ahead of time, but Mr. Common Courtesy left town a while back. I often speak with prospects 45 minutes ahead of a scheduled appointment time and get confirmation all is well- then drive 45 minutes to the other side of time and learn I've been stood up for no reason in particular. Crazy.
Yes, we are in a customer/client service type of industry, but I don't really think it's unreasonable to ask those customers and clients we serve (or ones we're trying to serve!) to read an ad every now and then- and I'm feeling pretty safe in thinking it's OK to expect folks who set and confirm appointments with me to actually keep them.
Could be wrong, I guess. So what about you- Who What are your biggest time wasters?
