We're Having a Heat Wave in the Mountains of Western North Carolina

Thank goodness global warning is just a misguided scientific fairy tale because if it was really happening I can’t imagine what the temperature would have felt like. As it was, driving through Canton, NC today after showing a house and writing an offer, I glanced down at the thermometer to see it register 105 degrees. Incredible! Something is seriously off kilter when the mountains of Western North Carolina are hotter than Florida.

This photo was taken last year when I burned off the dead wood on the property and now I have a pile twice as large. I had planned to take care of it this weekend, but frankly tending a fire in these temperatures just doesn’t seem like the best idea.

So, I thought I’d make light of the heat situation and embed a video of “We’re Having a Heat Wave” but I’m not a big Marilyn Monroe fan. You know how YouTube is though, you look for one thing and you find another…turns out that Heat Wave performing Boogie Nights brought back memories. The music still makes me tap my toes but I sure don’t recall those geeky outfits.

Try to keep cool everyone and let’s hope for relief soon from those terrible fires out west.

Hi Mona, how about that - for once we seem to be enjoying (?) the same weather. We had a violent storm come through the area last night though - didn't see it coming at all. I feel for all the people who lost power and have to be without A/C for a few days .. I wont take the underground power lines in my neighborhood for granted again.

Andrea, we don't have a/c at the house. With the exception of a very few days in the summer...we haven't needed it. Gotta tell you though...I'm seriously thinking about going to the office tomorrow just to beat the heat.

Hi Mona, The weather has been cooler here than normal. Usually by this tiime of year we are well into 80's / 90's but except for a few hours, we are more moderate. But it is very dry and the fire potential is great because our rain came early and things have now dried out to a dangerous level. I sure hope you all get some relief from the heat. A portable air conditioner or two sounds like a needed solution.

Good morning Clint, we might get some thunderstorms this afternoon and that would be a relief. Other than that though this wave is supposed to move out soon.

Hi William, enjoy the cooler than normal. That's what we've had up until the last couple of days. Fire hazard is high here too. Only an idiot would try to have a fire in these conditions.

Charles, 110 sounds almost like an easy back oven to me. We're trying to stay as cool as possible.

Roger, how did I know you were probably shaking your groove thing in 1977. We've all got 70s articles best left unshared lol.

Heat wave everywhere except for sunny Florida where it's a very comfortable 87 or so degrees. (Just got off the phone with my folks who live there.) I love summer but even I have to say it's hard to work in that kind of weather.

Jill, I spoke with my mother too and it was probably 10 to 15 degrees cooler in Port Charlotte. It is very hard to function in this kind of weather. I really feel for all of the people with breathing issues and the pets.
