Places to Eat In and Around Marana, AZ

A few new restaurants have opened up in Marana, AZ in the last little while and my husband and I have done a bit of "menu exploring" to discover whether our finds have "made the list" we keep in our heads for places we'll visit again.  I don't like focusing on negativity, and so this short blog won't be long in detail, but here's a little bit about three local restaurants in and around Marana, AZ.

First off the list is the brand-new eatery, "The Station".  Fourth to open in a spot that ought to bring in the hundreds of citizens of Continental Ranch and Continental Reserve, we're not quite sure why this spot doesn't seem to hold a restaurant for long.

The waitress was sunny and chatty, and quickly seated us and brought us drinks while we surveyed the menu.  True to advertising, The Station offers sandwiches, burgers, seafood and steaks.  I ordered a bacon burger, my husband a patty melt, and my daughter the onion rings.  Verdict?  Good enough to try again - priced right.

Open much longer, but only for limited hours, The Bisbee Breakfast Club serves up plenty of breakfast available all day, and lunch from 11-2.   We entered a mostly-filled cafe at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and ordered usual breakfast fare.  I ordered a biscuit and gravy, with a side of bacon, and left most.  My husband mostly enjoyed his standard bacon and eggs, potatoes on the side.  I might have gotten a colored opinion when my coffee was brought in a mug smeared with lipstick, but the end result was the same.  Verdict?  Off our list but based on the steady stream of customers - on plenty of others.

Noble Hops Gastropub on the corner of La Canada and Lambert, Oro Valley.  If you're into beer specialties - I bet this place is a hit.  The menu choices are impressive.  We, however, had diet cokes...

I was excited about a varied menu with choices not usually seen - I love eating out what I can't/don't cook at home.  I ordered the Butternut Squash Soup with caramelized pecans and the Porcini Dusted Gnocchi.  I worked to eat half.  (Across the street at Caffe Torino I have to MAKE myself eat only half)

My husband ordered the polish sausage appetizer with baked pretzel on the sides.  His portions were big enough to take home for lunch the next day.  Three sausages. Unfortunately for our tastes, we probably won't be back.  I did check the online reviews however and it sounds like it's a great place to sample beers...food, not so much.  And, the atmosphere and location got high marks online as well. Across the street is Harvest and Caffe Torino - If we're hungry and in the neighborhood, we're more likely to stop there.

So, all in all, not too bad of success.  One on, two off the list.  Try them yourselves - it's great to promote local businesses, and thank goodness we don't all have the same tastes.  :)  Bon Appetite'

Oh...and one more add...if you want a quick meat-and-cabbage taco for just $1.85 or so, stop in to Angela's Mexican Food on Coachline and Twin Peaks - what a deal!

Lipstick on your cup, yuck, that is a major turn-off for me along with hair in the meal. Good to share all this with your local folks, Cara. Obviously, others were not turned off at the two you didn't care for. Have a great Sunday evening.
