Nerdin Gardens Revisited July 2012 ~ Much to be thankful for!

Nerdin Gardens Revisited July 2012 ~ Much to be thankful for!

We are in full swing of our growing season here in sunny southern Utah  and as some of you know, we plant over 40 varieties of fruits and vegetables.

The zucchini, crook neck squash, green beans, snow peas, peppers, artichokes and strawberries are coming on quickly now!

Thankful Thursdays: Much to be grateful for encore!

We have had a fair share of sweet-n-spicy radishes and turnips will be put in their place.

We have pulled more than 40 artichokes, grilling some and giving some away to family and friends.

This year Mike has planted a variety of Sunflowers who resemble sentries, standing guard over most of the crop. They are fast growing and their stalks are thick and healthy.

The tomatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic are starting to come on and we will have fresh vegetables throughout fall, right up to the first frost!

What a difference 4 weeks can make!

We are indeed thankful for the abundant food that our garden has produced from fresh salads made with lettuce, fresh basil, tomatoes, carrots, onion, cabbage, cucumber and more! We appreciate the hard work that has much to do with our success!

The grape and  muscadine vines are heavy with clusters that hang through the arbor, making a beautiful photo opportunity now and grape jam and juice at fruition.

The best to all gardeners out there who have tilled the soil, prepared it for growth, planted and are now reaping the rewards of all your hard work! You deserve it!

Thank you Cal! We are blessed to have the room to plant and harvest such a variety of food.

Alexandra, I come out and read while enjoying the smells and sights. It is relaxing! I am drying the first batch of Roma tomatoes for the first time today. I am excited to see how they turn out.

Wanda, what magnificent gardens! You and Thomas Jefferson would have been friends and your gardens rival his on a smaller scale.

Wanda--WOW!!!!  Can't deny that I am envious of your abundance of sunshine and long growing season.  I just stopped at farmers' market this afternoon to buy tomatoes and other produce. Enjoy.
