The residents of Stamford Connecticut are so very excited about the Mill River Park project which is beautifying the City that Works. A while ago I had the pleasure of attending a celebration for the Mill River Park project. One of the first noticeable changes was the addition of a community playground on Mill River Road. Volunteers came over a weekend and created a safe haven for the neighborhood children. A place that was once used for illegal activities, is now a place where one can hear laughter of children running from slide to slide, feel a water misting area providing the overheated with a brief respite and see the smiling faces of kids, well, just being kids. Very cool! 
This wonderful initiative is brought to Stamford by the Mill River Collaborative which is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to creating and sustaining a world-class park and greenway along the banks of the Mill River in the heart of Stamford Downtown. The Collaborative is leading the development of the park, which has result in the restoration of a freely flowing Mill River for the first time in 360 years. Construction is underway on the first phase of the park between Main and Broad Streets which include a great lawn, a new cherry tree promenade, stairs, walls and overlooks, river paths for walking, running and biking and sites for an interactive fountain, skating rink, carousal and event pavilion.
Now that Stamford's Mill River Park project continues toward the next phases' completion, the carousel and outdoor ice rink which are scheduled for completion in 2014, Stamford's residents are very excited about the changes that will soon take place in this area of land.
As a native of Stamford, CT and Realtor in the area, not only am I having the pleasure of witnessing the changes to my hometown, but I am proud to have been asked to be a part of the transformation. As you know, no change or improvements come free of charge. A group of us are hosting a evening excitement, dancing and singing on Saturday, July 21st...Rockin'on the River! The evening includes a really fun night of hors d'ouvres and sit-down dinner by Marcia Selden,caterer extraordinaire; dancing; and a great rock'n roll concert featuring today's Shirelles and Drifters.
