Canada Day Surprise... In Sundance - Calgary Alberta

About 2 or 3 weeks ago, I was at a garage sale in Sundance when I noticed an item, that at the time, caught my eye, but not enough to make the purchase.  It was a set of exercise weights.   They were hexagon style dumbbells ranging from 8 to about 35 pounds -- just right for my work-outs.  Well I walked away never having bought the silly things, and now they’re all I can think of.

Anyway, this morning, in lieu of a weight-lifting workout… what with no weights to lift and everything, I decided to head out to do some kayaking on Lake Sundance.  I still had those weights weighing on my mind though, so I decide to take a detour past the house that had hosted the garage sale a few weeks ago… just in case.

So I drove by, and alas, no garage sale, so I headed toward the lake. 

That’s when the Peonies caught my eye…

The Peonies, and the Poppies, and the Lilies and at least a hundred other flowers that I don’t know the names of. 

What a spectacular garden, laid out on a lovely corner lot, heralding the entry to what was clearly a well-loved home. 

 I had to take a picture… so I rushed home to get my camera.  

When I returned, the home owners were just outside.  I stopped by to ask if I could take a few shots of their lovely garden.  They were very friendly, and indulged my enthusiasm. 

It turns out, they’ve lived in Sundance since day one, and have seen the community grow from a new suburb on the “outskirts” of town to the well-established community of Sundance that we enjoy today… complete with schools, shopping and all of the conveniences nearby. 

The icing on the cake, on today of all days, was their entirely unique wrought iron gateway to the back yard… It was custom made, Blair explained, by himself together with the help of a co-worker & friend.  And it was perfect…  for a stroll through the garden on Canada Day.
