What is the latest American Airlines Spam Alert? This morning a notice wiggled its way through Google filters into my email with the subject matter "American Airlines Preferred Seat Order" with a link and an 800 phone number. The email came from aa.globalnotifications.com with some details about a plane reservation.
What is important is to NOT click on any links in the email. This is all about safe internet practice. Next, do not call the 800 number from your cell phone either to find out where you are going as your phone will more than likely get zapped by the spammers. This is the one good thing about still having an old-fashion landline. When I did call the 800 number it went to a front end site called Talk Live. If I had used my cell phone, the odds are high my backend info would have been accessed in some way. If I had clicked on the links, my name would have been used in future spam.
Pay attention to these situations. Let us know what you discover with a short quick blog. Then pass it forward to your sphere via social networking. Let your email provider know they are spammers not marketing. Help stop yet another version of identity theft or fraud. In other words, make a difference by passing it forward. Let's keep doing more good here on Activerain.
Fortunately, American Airlines took the lead on these issues as well by posting this information on their web sites to help the public be more aware. It would be great if other major corporations did the same. Imagine how that would help people? Here is the American Airlines Link to report spam and phishing.
