Sunday Selling Tips: Paint Color Selection

Sharon Tara, a professional Home Stager in Portsmouth, New Hampshire has some good advice.  If you are planning to paint your home to prepare it for sale, consult with a Home Stager to select the paint color. As she discusses in her post below, it's best to select neutral colors and you want to chose something that will compliment your furnishings and floors.

NH Home Staging FAQ -  Can You Help Me Choose Paint Colors?

color fan deckProbably the most frequently asked question I get, as a New Hampshire Home Stager, has to do with paint color selection.

Most Home Staging consults result in a room or more needing paint....usually involving the choice of a new color.

Yes, I can help you choose the colors.  Color selection is a crucial part of any Home Stager's services.

When preparing your house for sale it's best to use neutral colors to appeal to the broadest range of buyers.  It's the interpretation of "neutral" that confuses most sellers.  Builders beige or white are what come to mind, but that's not what home stagers recommend.

Neutral doesn't mean cold and sterile.  You want colors that are warm and inviting.  You want colors that compliment your furnishings and floors.  Don't paint every room a different color. Sticking to just two or three colors (plus trim color) throughout the house, creates a smooth flow from room to room.

Paint color can make or break a room.  It can compensate for negative features and it can enhance the positive.  Professional advice on the choice of color can save you time and money.

Home Selling Tip:  Meet with a stager PRIOR to meeting with your painter.  I've had clients tell me "we just had it painted" when I recommend they change a room color.   OOPS!

Hi Sharon~ It's good advice.  Most folks, including myself think of builder beige when thinking about neutrals.

Valerie~ Before and after photos are powerful.  Most people are visual and it helps to "see" the results.

I have a similar color green in my office as in Sharon's "after" photo.  I've had hundreds of people tell it it's warm and goes wtih everthing.

Hi Tammy~ The color choice for "selling" needs to show off the features and benefits of the room!
