I'm Available 24/7! Ha! Just Kidding. I Have A Life.
If you missed this blog yesterday. Please READ it... As I will always say if you do not set your boundaries and expectations up front, no one else will. It is important that we treat our profession like a business. The Christiansen team couldn't of said it better.
Last year I had a conversation with a Realtor in my office. He told me that he was messing around on the internet one night and his phone rang. It wasn't a number he recognized, but he went ahead and answered it, even though it was pretty late.
It was a lady that wanted some more information about a listing.
He gave her the information she wanted, and she ended the conversation by saying "You are definitely my Realtor. I called you at midnight and you answered. To me, that shows that you are committed to your job and that's the kind of Realtor I want!!"
I congratulated him on having a new buyer but warned him that if she called at midnight once and you answered, she will do it again and expect the same.
He rolled his eyes and walked out of the office.
Fast forward a month. This woman had driven him absolute crazy. She called whenever she wanted. She demanded that he was available 24/7 and reminded him about all the money he would be making when she bought a home. (She was in the $400,000 price range. Pretty high dollar around these parts.)
I'm not sure if she ever bought a home or not, but I can tell you this much. If any potential clients are reading this and expect me to be available to you 24/7... it's not happening.
Here is what you CAN expect from me: I'll work evenings when necessary. I'll work weekends without hesitation. If there is an emergency (aka deadline) or negotiations that go late into the evening... I'm your guy. No worries there. I'll work my ass off for you.
That said... I won't be available 24/7. I have a life. I'll do what I need to do and make sure you are taken care of on a daily basis, but I won't answer your call at midnight because you want information about a listing. Feel free to email me or call me in the morning.
I hope you understand where I am coming from. If not, I can give you that other agent's number. I think he's still up. :)
