13 Comments on Let Freedom Ring – July 4, 2012!
Such a great holiday for our nation. We must all never forget that freedom is never free. Great post.
Gene - I am glad that you repeated this again It should be required reading for those who do not appreciate this country and it is good for all of us to refresh on a regular basis what we so often take for granted.
Paula and Barbara - Thanks for coming by. It is not surprising that you are both from Texas.
This is worth reminding us of over and over again. This country has gotten away from it's foundation and from God, and it shows.
Gene, Love this post! And a reminder that the 4th is about a lot more than barbeques and fireworks!
Debbie and Deborah - Thanks for coming by. I am glad you appreciate what our founders set forth for this nation.
I really hope that you get many more positive comments on such an important topic. I think the comments before me pretty much said most of my feelings. Thank you for posting this again.
Let freedom ring in your house today and all days. I am thankful that I live in the US everyday.
Great history lesson. WE as American's know very little as a whole about our history and much of what we do know is wrong.
Gene - Have a super Fourth of July ..... celebrate your freedom there are many even today that do not enjoy the freedoms that our respective countries enjoy.
The main problem as I see it is this: We were formed as a Republic not a democracy. We have slowly transformed into a democracy and in fact it is taught to our kids out of social study books in public schools that we are indeed, wrongly, a democracy. The difference between the two is simple. A Republic is set by original laws that aren't meant to be transformed or immutable by the times. A democracy is ruled by the feelings of the people and is an evolving ideal that is transformed by voters and courts. We have evolved from a Republic to a democracy and if you know your history, no democracy has lasted more than a few hundred years. "I pledge allegiance to the Republic, for which it stands...." I still live by that oath. The 4th is about celebrating our freedoms... of which we have so few now. But a man/woman who knows Jesus is truly free indeed.
Gene
Glad you posted.
I particularly appreciate Bob and Bonnie's explanation of the distinction between republic and democracy.
"Hence it is that democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and in general have been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths... A republic, by which I mean a government in which a scheme of representation takes place, opens a different prospect and promises the cure for which we are seeking."- James Madison
“Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide.” - John Adams
“A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine.” - Thomas Jefferson
This is what our forefathers thought of democracy... with all our leaders calling us a great democracy, can you see the train coming. Most just think it's the light at the end of the tunnel. Pray for America.
