As a member of our local Home Builder's Association, I just received my July newsletter. On the cover is an article, about over 750 builders from around the United States gathering on June 6th on Capitol Hill to plea with Congress to make housing and homeownership a national priority, and to take steps to get housing back on track in order to create jobs and keep the economy moving forward.

Amen!!! I personally want to say thank you to these hard working builders who took their time to voice what needs to happen in order for our economy to strengthen and ultimately recover. They actually attended more than 250 meetings with their representatives and senators. In a nutshell, they are asking these lawmakers to support legislation to restore the flow of credit for new housing production. To pass legislation to reform housing government sponsored enterprises Fannie Mac, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks that provides a federal backstop to ensure a reliable and adequate flow of affordable housing credit in all economic and financial conditions.

Also to preserve current housing tax incentives, including the mortgage interest deduction and the Low Income Housing Tax Credit. These builders from all over, stressed to legislators that, "no economic recovery can happen without a housing recovery. In the most important election year of my lifetime, I beg each of you reading this to consider these critical issues when deciding who you vote for as President.

I'm completely against the concept of eliminating the mortgage interest deduction. It drives homeownership and for most us a much needed tax benefit. I'm very grateful to these Builder's who took their time and took action to voice how critical a housing recovery is to our economic recovery.

Business starts with housing.  One of the largest resources for business capital is the equity in individual homes.  Property taxes also drive infrastructure.
