Yesterday, before the barbecue and fireworks, I spent a little time looking over my shoulder at the first six months of 2012.  The reflection was a little rosier than years past, and for that I'm grateful.   I'm pleased with the results of the tweaks I made to my 2012 business plan.  Did everything pan out as planned? No, but the shift is evident and progress steady.

Least I should ever doubt it, sale stats reveal once again referrals are the foundation of my business.  Nearly 70% of my year-to-date business was generated from referrals.  The rest is a compilation of Internet, open house and direct mail.  A current listing's genesis was an ad call.  Another came from an Active Rain post.  Yet another came from a customer I showed property to but have yet to sell or list a home.

What's in store for the rest of the year?  Deepen my commitment to past client care--that one is pretty much a no-brainer.  Improve my technique for separating the chafe from the wheat when it comes to Internet leads--some of these are golden and others are a wild goose chase--and a drain on energy and the gas tank.  Maybe there is no way to completely eliminate this but the time factor is too large not to give it a diligent try.

Focus.  Every once in awhile I let myself get sucked into the black hole of lost time.  Really, in the big picture the outcome of theTomKat split will not impact my life or business. (smile) There is no way to retreive time once it is gone.  I plan to approach July through December with laser focus and keep my eyes on the prize and return to the plan when I am tempted to go off topic too long.

Besides, if I manage my time more effectively and efficiently there will be more time for those I love and what I love.

Norma, great post! It is easy to get lazy when there is a holiday in the middle of a week.  I am smiling at your TomKat comment.  How much time is going to be donated to that on the news?

Whew, managing the time thing is such a challenge isn't it?  So important yet when we are in a hot market, it is very difficult to do.  Glad you had a great 4th.

Ah yes, the interenet leads that run you ragged.  That is something I need to get better at identifying.

Great idea:)

Congrats on a good 1/2:)

I had a veeeeeeeery slow first 5 months.....i worked very had, but had very little results:(

times has changed, my phone is ringing often, emails and referrals are coming from many directions.

Now, I just need to focus on the strongest:) since i tend to be very 'helpful' and be easily destructed from 'must dos'...

Congratulations on a great first half of the year.  It is so important to track our business and where it comes from, as you so evidently do.  You have the data now to make the informed adjustments to grow your business, rather than waiting with your fingers crossed!  That might be your greatest success of the year so far!
